He made so many trades and wis pissed when he decided to stop the sourcing of ETA mvts to trades out of Swatch group. BUT! Look: He boosted the inhouse production with that. It was about time that Pany and Breitly use them huge profits made on selling eta mvts at gold price, to give the change with well deserved inhouse work.
May the man rest in peace.

I have no doubt that Mr Hayek Sr will be missed, but that his influence will continue. His son (Nicolas Hayek Jr) may take over the reigns, from what I read. It is ludicrous to say that he single-handedly saved the Swiss auto watch industry through the "quartz crisis" (their words, not mine) - but he had a helluva strong influence in it, and many of the brands we wear or covet today reflect a heritage that he was strongly involved in continuing.

RIP Mr Hayek.

sad day for all watch enthusiasts imho....it was Mr. Hayek who single handed resurrected the Swiss Watch industry and mechanical/automatic watches when the Quartz revolution took over in the late 60'scausing many, many Swiss/German watch companies to go under...he was a true WIS and will be missed by many!
