So I'm rather curious about this one.  On another forum that I frequent for one of my other hobbies, a gentleman just put a watch up for sale.  It's a Mont d'or solid 18k gold watch with a valjoux 7750 engine.

Apparently they used to be a part of the swatch group and only did solid gold watches?

Anyways the guy is trying to sell it for $5k

Solid 18K yellow gold Mont D'Or Chronograph on 18K bracelet, Swiss Made.
Made by Swatch Group who also make Breguet, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Omega, Tiffany & Co, etc.
Swiss automatic Valjoux 7750 movement, sapphire crystals front and back, screw down crown.
Case and signed bracelet are both 18k yellow gold.
Purchases new in 2002, worn only 6-7 times, in 98%+ condition.
I have other watches and just don't wear this much.
Keeps very good time, chronograph functions flawlessly.
Comes with outer box, inner box, and papers.
Weighs 4.575 Troy Ounces (173 Grams).
Retail was $13,500.
Sell for $5,000 cash. The gold alone is worth that.

Mont D'Or is actually based out of NYC and is distributed by Alliance watch....they do claim that they are made in Bienne,Switzerland but I do not believe they are or were part of Swatch Group...I could be wrong?....problem with these types of off brands is they have no resale value and no appreciation as far as value compared to a known name brand....the price still seems high and I'm not sure what 173 grams of 18K gold is worth but I'm pretty sure it isn't $5000. and is more like $4000. and that depends on if his weight calculation is with or without the movement ,crystal and caseback which are not 18K.... homerthinks.gif

Based on today's prices 18KT gold can be sold for a little over $27.00 per gram as scrap, so that is about $4,700 for 173 grams assuming that does not include the weight of the movement and any screws or other hardware holding the case and bracelet together....maybe offer the guy $3,900 or something like that and see if he bites

I'm not interested in purchasing it because at that price level I'd get something much more in line with the price. Just getting a gauge for what other people thought.

I asked him about the weight but he didn't respond regarding if it was the gold itself or everything included.
