Wonder if i could pick your brains about what watch to pick up. Looking in the $200-400 range for something that I don't have to worry about when fishing out on the stream or saltwater and would also pass in the office. I've got a 6.75 wrist and am still a bit confused about size matching with divers.  From lurking here and elsewhere it looks like the Tissot seastar 1000 would be a good match but I guess  I'm worrried about size with that model........ wish i could find one locally to try but no luck. Have also been considering the O&W 3077.  Am I being overly concerned about size and/ or not really needing a true "diving watch" are there others to consider.

appreciate it and have learned quite a bit listening in

You really do need a diver if you are a fly fisherman...please note my son in laws website http://www.fishwest.com  The way watches are rated, you'll want at least 100 meter water resistance to feel good about that kind of water exposure.  I am partial to the Zodiac brand since they are bulletproof and super accurate..Alas, I think I'm the only one on the forum who likes 'em...If  you want a beater...look into the Invicta diver series and don't spend over a hundred bucks...If you want a quartz, look at these.  They are 40mm diameter and are good for most men...Same size as the Rolex watches they emulate..

My wife has 3 40mm's and they look nice (but big) on her arm.

Actually, my wrist is slightly larger, but just under 7", but the Seastar 1000 is perfect.  A few of other "worry free" suggestions would be the Seiko Monster (Orange or Black), a Seiko Orange Knight and the Orient 200M Diver:

I agree... I love the tissot seastar 1000. I have the silver face but the black looks very cool also.

Eddy.......I'm very familiar with your son in laws site. Unfortunately i'm much too familiar with many flyfishing sites and also picked up a bad case of bamboo rod fever some years back........ its for that reason that i can't spend more on a watch!:)

hope I'm not stepping over the line here but could i follow up and ask if anyone has a tissot online dealer they could recommend  or if you prefer send to my e mail

noticed no one commented on the O&W watch........is that because its a bit more obscure or is the tissot perhaps a  better value?

thanks boys........anyone insane enough to be interested in bamboo fly rods I can point you in the right direction. In trying to learn about Quartz vs. automatic I was struck by the similarity of arguments coming up to when we hash over bamboo vs graphite fly rods.

 again, really appreciate the help

I think that Oscar has a Tissot AD close by that gives some pretty smokin' deals.  I got my Tissot PRS516 Automatic from (believe it or not) Amazon.com for about $248 shipped after 10% off coupon and my "preowned" Seastar from Oscar!  The sales forums are a good place to look and to post a WTB.

You should be able to pick up a BNIB Seastar 1000 for no more than $350 - $375.

I'm a happy owner of both a Seiko Orange Monster and an Orient 200m diver.

You can't go wrong with either.

Heck, my Orient is accurate to +4 sec. a day.

I guess I got lucky.
