In this small town of Greece, sadly to say... ...not many Greeks here know about watches!  mistake.gifI'm talking about this town that I live.

I walked into a pharmacy yesterday to get some meds for my little gal. One employee (A) which I know, came to me and said: "Hi, that's a nice watch you are wearing there!"

Another employee (B) who was already serving me, asked:"What brand is the watch?" Obviously I did not reply.

The employee (A) replied after looking at my watch:"Not sure, it says something "
MARINA" here!".

I paid my meds and left. I was wearing my LUMINOR
MARINA PANERAI 111! mistake.gif
Perhaps if I was wearing my ROLEX, they know ROLEX! toon1.gif

Who gives acrap what the non-WIS think? Most times, they are hilarious... I have people ask me if any shiny watch is a rolex... its all they know...At least they noticed you had a real boomer on, Jacky.

Well I remember someone who wore his ORANGE MONSTER to a watch store and the watch employee thought it cost hundreds of bucks!smile8.gif

But like Mark said, I do not bother too. Cos maybe ONE DAY, just one day he will find out the brand and recall that he saw on my wrist!toon1.gif

But if that one day does not become reality, it is ok too as what is most important that WE know the watch and brand ourselves! (Gee I know sounds like self-sympathize:P).

If people do not devote time to consciously know watches how can you expect them to know the differences? We, WIS devote a great deal of time to watches we study them online and in person we read about them and can tell an auto or wind up from a quartz by glancing  at the second hand .Your freind may not even change his own strap.Do not blame them for not being up on what they have not studied.P.S Have the fires affected you at all.

Well I do not blame them but just feel sad for them, after all, ROLEX is a good watch but NOT THE ONLY good watch around.

True, we devoted and "wasted" our time in WIS and internet, that's why we are here and are watch freaks! subtlelaugh.gif Maybe one day, when they come across that there is more than one GOOD brand besides ROLEX, and one of them has the word "MARINA" on it! toon1.gif

Jacky, I've only run in to two people who have known what my Pam was here in the states.  So its not a 'Greek' thing to be sure...;)

While watch comments are always welcome, I find it is very rare indeed that anyone even notices my watch, and even more rare that they ask what brand/type it is.  And even if they find out, they don't know the brand, like you say, outside of a Rolex, anyways, so in the end it doesn't matter.  I wear whatever I like, not to be noticed, but because it fits my style and preference.

I was in a jewelry store trying on a TAG Heuer Aquaracer a few weeks ago and the guy looked at my Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon and said "Nice watch....Is it a TAG??"

I said no.

In defense of the average Joe though, the guy in the Bulova outlet recognized the watch and was quite impressed by it.

Interestingly, I just picked my boys up from school and a doctor  (orthopod) friend of mine walked up with an orange watch on (he usually wears only Rolex, Cartier or Muller) and I said, "Nice DOXA"..he looked at me wide eyed and siad, "You know what this is?" and I responded, "Sure, just got a Sharkhunter, myself".

PS...I will not tell you what he paid for it as he thought he got quite the deal...you know, as rare as the Orange SUB 750T is!!!:)
