The very largest watch I own is a Russian Poljot Aviator at 45mm. I can't see myself ever buying or wearing anything larger than 45mm. The sweet-spot size for me is 42-43mm. Maybe it is the fact that the population is getting bigger with each new generation that watches are growing too. I dunno. But, 50+mm does seem to be way too big for some of us.

Big watches are here to stay enough that they were given a category at Basel last yearhand6.gif....I buy all sizes depending on the style of watch...I don't discriminate....they call me Chief Wearemall....Big,fat,thin n' small

Ya know - I hear each and every one of you. I wear long sleeves and cufflinks every day of the working week - and after hours and on the weekends my bare white arms are adorned with all manner of time-wear - usually one at a time... Sweet spot for me is again that 42-44mm size that makes it easy for a 49er (49 years old, that is...) tell the time without squinting. It sounds like such a simple thing... but it really does make a helluva difference. I wear 6 to 12mm high watches during the week, and unleash the monsters after hours and on weekends - simply because I think that it looks more professional to wear those sorts of watches during office hours in the law firm... It is all about my perceptions of myself, because I am sure that clients probably don't give a hoot. And that doesn't mean I am saying anyone else should do this - different professions and tastes mean different rules and different choices and I say more power to those that can make a style choice any time of the day or week! But I have to agree that there are some beautiful, simple, not too large timepieces out the there (like IWC 40 to 42mm with a simple sub-seconds and/or a date, Patek and many others of that type that are, to some eyes, restrained, purposeful, classy and "timeless classics") that out-sophisticate many of my other watches - and I am more likely to wear those to work. To each their own - and for every watch there is a legion of admirers. I like 'em all - but I would not wear my Monstrum under a dinner suit - even if I was wearing sneakers! I wear dress shirts to the office 95% of the time as well, and I agree that the larger (42mm+) watches can sometimes get in the way. But, it doesn't really stop me from wearing them anyways.

I find myself spending less and less time with my smaller watches both during the say and after hours. I enjoy looking down and seeing something substantial on my wrist that sort of stands out. Even my "dress" watch is at least 42mm and 15+mm tall. --Steve

I remember ranting several years ago about the size of watches as a 38mm to 40mm kinda guy, but the designs over the last few years have made me change my mind in several respects. Now, I try to keep in the 40mm t0 42mm range, but the call of designs by ORSA, ENZO, Stowa and others simply overwhelms me at times...the my collecting grows in more than one direction. To me, it is not what size it is, but how it "wears"...ie: the "look and feel" on my wrist!

I got used to the bigger watches. Now, even my wife has told me that my GSAR is too small! So I'm selling that and getting a JSAR! Who am I to argue with the mrs. goofy

Hmmm...never really gave any conscious thought to wearing a "large" watch or a "small" watch. I've been married to an ex-fashion designer for 36 years so I was "trained" very early to wear the "appropriate" watch with various types of dress. That means a gold JLC "Sun & Moon" Reverso on a deployant-buckled alligator strap with a suit (rarely!) and an Enzo on a thick silicone strap with jeans and a sweat shirt (most of the time). Of course, I have also worn the JLC with jeans and a sweatshirt but that's another story....;).
