Hey Jo and oldskool - great selections on the VWs. I had a 2.0 Passat Turbo for a while, but the build quality was shocking. We get certain VW cars here that are assembled in every place EXCEPT Germany... the V6s are so much more enjoyable than the 4-cylinder cars. But with petrol prices going the way they are maybe we should all be riding motorbikes!!?? There is talk of a new Sirocco - that looks good. And of course, I still get my subscriptions of e-magazines from the US - my favourite of which is "Winding Road" - do you both subscribe to that? If you have any interest in the Australian car scene (maybe you can see where your Ponitac G8s and GTOs originated, plus the whole retail market scene here) and some interesting Ford products - you can subscribe to: http://www.mellor.net/mellor/mellorweb.nsf/weben/E-news%20Subscription It pre-dates the Winding Road e-zine, but is still nowhere as upmarket as yours. Read it and be scared, very scared, of the prices - especially when the USD is almost the same as the AUD at the moment... If I relocate to the US - I am heading straight for the Audi dealer and getting myself an Audi S8 - no, not the V10, the superseded model, so I wont feel too bad doing some performance modifications to it... :). Then I am going to start looking for a second-hand Shelby GT500KR in all black - just for something to do... I can't afford the Shelby right now - but what a terrific goal-car. There are some interesting car shows coming to Perth, or being raced at Perth, soon. I will make sure to take photos and share. oldskool - that was a hefty modifications list - do you still have it , or what made you sell it? And canadajo - in my part of the world, we call that profit "watch money" yahoo.gif Cheers gentlemen and have a terrific weekend. I bought a Tropic Orange VR6 GLX GTI when they first came out. Barely started modding it when after a month of ownership someone ran a red light and totalled it. :( So I had to drive a Dodge Neon for several months while I looked for a replacement. They were very rare and hard to get at the time. I ended up with the matchstick red. I heavily modded it because I was into auto-x and track days and stuff... But it was leased. I had it for about 4 years, the car had lost significant value due to so many special models released: R32, 20th ani, a few more I can't remember now...so resale plumetted. Also, I was wanting something a little less front heavy and a little more nuetral. Plus the car payments and insurance were just too high to justify. I parted it out and sold it just barely. It was a learning experience. So I wanted a BMW. I was looking for an E30 (pre 1995?) as they were less expensive and very attractive. But a deal fell through and I ended up falling in love with the 328is. I had it for about a year with modest mods to it, and someone rear ended me on the highway. Didn't think that was possible. So I bought it back from insurance, and parted it out. Then I parted a couple other cars out. I took the car to bare metal, replaced the entire interior, the exterior trim, all the suspension, bushings, differential, cooling system, etc. Then I added a bunch of upgraded parts. All told I spent too much sadly. But it was well funded by the sale of car parts. Now I just don't drive it enough....VA is a bad place to have a nice car. No radar detectors, undercover cops, low speed limits, HUGE speeding tickets, etc.

VA sounds like WA! (Western Australia!). New government wants to make us use trains and buses. Yeah, right... We have 12 points we can lose over a 3 year period for various offences on the road - more speed, more points lost. 3 points for using a mobile while driving. 9 points for running a red light. Instant loss for drink driving. New "hoon" (like racerboys, I guess - or young blokes driving hotted up cars loudly and spinniung their wheels, racing on the streets etc) under which you lose your licence and they crush your car. None of this would offend me if they were consistent in applying the law.... When I think back on it, the Bimmer straight six is still the silkiest motor I have ever driven. Pushed to their limits, they absolutely scream - but they still hold together. It is just such a pity that parts prices are such a gouge here. Research was done that showed that if you built a new car solely from the spare parts department of your local BMW dealer - your $40,000 3-series would cost you almost $400,000 in the parts you would have had to buy across the counter. Crazy. Our secondhand market is also dumba*s here - that S8 I was discussing would have cost over $220,000 AUD when new, and is still about $70,000 AUD now. In the US - same car, LHD, under $70,000 new and about $18,000 to $23,000 USD for a cracker. Life makes no sense, does it... Have a good one and enjoy the heck out of your 3 series, before they legislate to ban us from having any fun! IanMhand6.gif

That VW was a complete mod ...... I tricked out my Passatts and Scirrocco's, but not to that extent .... it is fun , but time consuming and expensive too .... I was lucky to be able to use radar and lazer protection

I remember now, the VW had the SKODA rear windshield wiper, black VW military badges front and back, euro headlight switch with rear fog position and city lights, the aluminum VW pedal kit, red LED Audi style center console illumination, probably still a few other little gadgets I can't remember... I was addicted. :D

Nah - addiction is when you buy a watch with your car logo on it...  The white M5 above had a trick cam, was chipped, double plate racing clutch (sounds good, made it tricky to drive), those Hartge wheels were so big the fronts rubbed on full lock until I rebuilt the inner guards, had a short-shift kit, a twin 3" exhaust with no catalytic converters, and was the nastiest sounding 6 cylinder you have heard. The silver 540I has been chipped, needs a clutch, could do with new rotors and pads all round, and the suspension would be nice with rose-jointed Koni adjustables... hmmmm. Guess which car I have in the midst of my watch-buying spree... hehe. Have a good one fellas!
