As from other thread, I had mention I'm expecting another diver watch in coming. The Steinhart Ocean 1 Vintage came last Saturday and today the Helson Shark Diver PVD orange landed on the door step. First impression, it's one damn heavy piece, well the watch from bezel to bottom of the case almost 18mm thick so it's understandable. And the Lum... Well, it's scary blight. Have a look at the second picture for the comparison to Steinhard Ocean 1 Vintage under daylight for a minute to see what I mean . The PVD coating, I will rate it good+ to the case and average + to the bracelet, The mesh is flawless but the links end can see insufficient coating (the stainless steel colour still showed). I'll try to size the bracelet tonight if I have time and will post a update in the future. Here are couple quick snaps..

Cheers,

Nice catch!
I've been shying away from PVD due to durability issues - or to be more exact, durability issue rumors.
Maybe we should start a thread about it.....

Thanks Graham, thankyou.gif

That sound good, I'm sure many 3T members also puzzle on this matter. The Shark diver is my first PVD watch which I'm attracted by it's super cool yourock.giforange lum. My next most likely PVD diver is Keith's CD2 yellow PVD with ETA movement. But it looks like become my next year collection item now.

Nice one, Sang1911. I think you're the very first 3T WIS with a Helson. Congrats!

I have also been shying away from PVD (like Graham) because I think the technology is still not perfected. Of course, a couple of watches in one's collection with PVD is a must. The look is always cool and neat.

Thanks for the info on the links showing some "skin"toon1.gif. I'll keep that in mind.

Wear it in good health.

Really like the PVD mesh bracelet, personally not sure on the durability of the PVD coating on any watch, my guess is if you wore it every day it would be more of an issue...

Nice catch Sang, can you tell us more about the watch?  I have been in contact with Peter for some info and I really like their SS black dial with orange accents.  For once it's a different case.  I feel like all the micro companies are using the same cases again and again, Helson has the merit to be a bit more original IMO. The lume seems unreal! When you look at it, it's so nice that it looks fake   That watch has also something I never heard of, a 90 clicks bezel??? I'm I wrong? Could you explain a bit on the bezel operation? Is it good, does it align properly with minute marks?...  As for PVD, I like the finish but it' just seems like a none durable finish, I could be wrong but I dont't think so.  I'm too maniac with scratches to get one, I would like to get a DLC finished watch though...

Anyway, this is a watch I seriously consider and would like to hear more about it, thanks for sharing and again, nice looking timepiece, I love it!!!

I've got several PVD pieces, I haven't had any trouble with PVD on he cases and bezels but bracelets and clasps not so good, If you can enjoy them on a strap you shouldn't have to worry too much about the PVD... I still wouldn't poor concrete or work on your diesel engine with one on though!

And that is an awesome watch!

Yes. It's a very stunning piece and I have to said it again it's a damn heavy piece. I worn it to work today it kept remind me I was wearing something on my wrist but the bracelet is comfortable though.

The quality of the watch... OldeCrow sum it up nicely it's as like most of the PVD watches. The case, bezel & LUME are very good. The blemish is on the bracelet -  missing coating between links which is a known process issue according to Peter.

90 clicks bezel. Yes, it's true. As far as I can see, the bezel pointer at 12 is spot on but to rest of the markers on the dial it's bit off alignment. In my case position 8 is the worse, for other positions you have to look hard to tell. The bezel "click" is very crisp and responsive but travel is a bit long if you used to 120 clicks.

All in all, I'm happy with the Shark Diver (minus the links coating issue). For the money, the SS version is a good buy for a 2000m diver. If you don't mind the weight..;););) (Just kidding.)

Size comparison on the wrist, Steinhart Ocean 1 vintage & Helson Shark Diver.

Hehehe! Your not cheap Mark! I also think it's a lot of money but their is a lot of watches with Miyota movement arroud $400-$500.  It's also a 2000M diver with a mesh-oyster links bracelet that other companies are selling for $100 just for the bracelet and  that makes the price more reasonable IMO.  Anyway, my biggest concern is that 90 click bezel, what the hell were they thinking about???!!! mistake.gif  This is the weirdest thing I have heard lately...I really don't see anything positive to that...How can you design a precise bezel to align with 60 marks when you have 90 clicks???? Really a bad design and a deal breaker for me... But man I love the look of this watch, it's really calling me!  who knows, maybe I'll grab one on the use market...Just trying to convince myself not to buy another watch, not sure it's going to work though subtlelaugh.gif

Thanks for the info Sang!
