Seiko Blue Monster I like it, not as much as I thought I would. It is the watch that the Orange Monster should be. The 7S36 Movement is a great 23 jewel piece have not serviced one yet but am looking forward to it. The blue is very electric which is the reason I purchased it. There has been in the past so much contriversy about the limited nature of the watch, so I will leave that to people that know more than me (Ken). One of the high lightes of my year has been the purchase and working with the Seiko 5 Sport Compass. It to has the 7S36 movement, but lacks the Sapphire Crystal of the Blue Monster, The hard lex is more shatter resistant and that is imp. in this application. The yellow hands are the reason I purchased it and I was not let down. The bracelet shares the same manufacture tech. as the monster (all solid one piece links and end links), the only difference is the use of push pins without the friction collar. The watch wears extremely well, I have no complaints at all. That is saying a lot given my job is to tear designs apart and find the flaws. It is a great watch and I would recommend it to any one. The crown on the titanium versions are larger than the verision I have, and you will more than likely favor that. It is the one thing that I would have changed, but mine is still great.

Is the compass just for show? Or, is there some actual function to it? I have never been able to figure that out on this watch.

While keeping the dial level point the hour hand in the direction of the sun. Turn the crown at the 9 o'clock position to set south on the rotating compass ring to the middle point of the arc between the 12 o'clock marker and the time scale indicated by hour hand. The direction markers on the ring indicate the corresponding directions. It is only a rough idea of direction but it does work.
