I know we have a number of gun enthusiasts here who might be able to answer this.

Do you guys wear your automatic watches when you shoot? I have been; but sometimes I worry that I'm going to do some damage over the long haul.

Anyone ever have any recoil issues, particularly with 10mm, .45 or .44?

I tried searches for recoil and shooting on the forum here- if I missed this topic from older posts I apologize for plowing old furrows

I shoot 1911s in .45 ACP all the time and have no issues. This subject has come up a few times on a couple of the firearm/military forums I'm a member of and nobody has had any trouble in relation to recoil from any caliber. If it's a vintage piece without shock protection, then I wouldn't wear it, but with more modern pieces you should be fine.

Thanks! I don't have any vintage in my collection as yet, so no worries there. Nice to know I'm not slowly ruining my watches.

I still think I'll keep my 7750 movements off the range though. They wobble like crazy just tying my shoessubtlelaugh.gif

In Asia where I used to shoot 9s, I never had a problem. In Texas at the range with my brother, we used lots of 38s and super 38s and also had no problem on reload ammo.

I gave up on the 45 long ago but recoil difference can be significant with the 45 vs the 9. Haven't tried the 10s nor the 44 at all.

10mm is pretty lively, .44 isn't too bad; provided the gun is heavy enough.

Never had that problem myself when I was shooting because I was shooting with one hand and I'm right handed , wearing my watches on the left wrist...
Or maybe you allways shoot with both hands on the gun...
When I was active on shooting ranges, I've been shooting with black powder 44cal revolvers(all kinds), S&W 44mag,Desert eagle 44mag,Colt 357mag, 45 ACP colt...
But mostly with one hand: The right one, so I never had any watch trouble. Offcourse, I wasn't burning hundreds bullets by seance. It was just for the fun to try them sometimes.
Still, the recoil of the model 29 S&W 44mag is so intense that I would not wear a watch on the same wrist.
But I destroyed 2 Vostok watches by using heavy pneumatic hammers for concrete on long runs...

I'm not so sure if it's related or not. But I had a Tissot PRS 516 stop working few years back when Australia still allowed to shoot 40Cal. The Tissot was my daily watch then and I was very active on IPSC shooting using 40Cal. Also I had a D'freemont running 20 minus fast about a year later which I used to wore it for shooting too. I solemnly wear watch when shooting now. But may be just my bad luck cos these are the only two watches I have problem in my collections.

Sang, must have been your hairspring. If you'd usually shoot dominant hand only, there'd be no problems but if you tried weak hand, I'd guess that's where the cause of the problem was. 40 can kick quite a bit.happy1.gifThe 2 handed-grip may also be a cause but maybe not as logical as weak hand shooting. I'm assuming you're right handed---based on your posts.

We should send this guy an email and see if his watch stopped working.
