I recieved this new Vollmer V-2 Limited Edition (#6 of 50) over the Memorial Day weekend from Island Watch. It is a Swiss COSC certified chronometer with an ETA 2824-2 movement inside. No decoration to speak of except for the Vollmer signed rotor. The movement does feature the Incabloc shock resistant mechanism and the movement is secured in place with a metal retainer. There also may be some upgrades or tweaks in the movement that I am not aware of.

The watch comes with two straps. The standard one is a WWII style aviator with built-in bomber jacket extension. It tends to make the watch look a bit smaller than 44mm on your wrist. A standard one rivet strap is also included.

I chose to put on a new Hirsch Liberty strap that I also got from Island Watch. It is the new Liberty style (with tie-offs near the lugs) and it makes the watch pop on my wrist (IMHO). I also have put a black Steve-O strap on it that gives the watch a completely different look.

I love the big 9mm crown that allows for quick and easy time adjustment. I also like the fact that there is no date on the dial to mess with. Just set the time and go.

The 44mm case is sandblasted for a satin-like, not quite matte finish. It is much nicer than the deeper grey look you get with titanium. The dial is simple with excellent C-3 treated markers and numbers. The hour and minute hands are C-3 also and tend to be a bit brighter and glow longer than the dial. A good charge will let you tell the time throughout the night with no problem.

A sapphire crystal is provided to protect the dial and I am not sure, but I believe the exhibition case back is mineral. At about 11.5mm thick, you aren’t likely to bang this watch on door handles, etc. like a big, thick dive watch. I somehow seem to find doorhandles in the house as if they were watch magnets.

The watch comes in a nicely done laminated cordovan stained wood box with Vollmer imprinted in gold on the inside of the lid. The wood box is protected with a white outer box with standard padding. Included is a manual, plus the COSC certificate.

I have never tested a watch for accuracy before. But as this is a chronometer, I decided to set it to my radio-controlled clock. After five days of wearing the watch it is nearly dead on with the clock. I’m sure there is a better way to test the accuracy, but this works for me. All-in all, it is a marvelous timepiece for my collection. Thanks for reading this.
