I finally managed to get my younger brother to wear watches. Since he had his birthday on Sept 5, i bought him a Citizen Proximity Eco-Drive as a gift. (His own choice). He received the watch on the 6´th Sept and he has still not figured out how to set it up correctly, even with the handbook. So i gave it a quick shot today. Uhm, i was not much more successful. Spent 20min reading the handbook but only got 5 min to fiddle around with the watch before he was heading home again. Setting up the watch and syncing it with the iPhone is a bitch from my pov, even though i only spent a short time with it. Yes the app is downloaded and installed, but there are so many steps to do that it just gets confusing. No plug and play here. Unless one is really into technical stuff like this, stay away!  The watch itself looks ok and sits nice on the wrist. Its a bit heavy for a quartz. But im guessing its because of the motor inside, that is supposed to send vibrations through your wrist when one receives a Mail/Message/Call. The watch is also supposed to warn you if you get too far away from the phone. But since we have not had much "luck" yet to set up the watch. I cant tell you how well all these functions work. Once we figure this syncing stuff out, i´ll let you know how well it preforms these tasks above. At least it tells time correctly. My personal opinion about this piece of metal, is that there's still a long way to go for a successful integration between cellphones and analog-watches. it's a nice watch,but not for me...I don't see the need to be linked to my iPhone,nor do I have the patience to set something so technical up...call me old fashioned.

I agree with you. This watch is not my cup of tea either. However, i wanted to share this small review just in case someone is thinking about buying it. Citizen do make good watches. Its just that this one might be more for a younger generation of tech-lovers and not watch-nerds. I would rather buy a Aqualand, or a Nighthawk (again).

If it works using Bluetooth it becomes a power issue as well Wonky thing, version 2 should be better But again... Who needs it

Is that it warns you if the distance between the phone and watch gets to great. I know how easy it is to forget the phone at home or in the car when one is in a hurry. But then if one wants a wristwatch that is truly integrated with a phone, a digital one would work much better then an analog one.

A quick update: I bought this watch in 2013, and used it almost exclusively as a standard, Eco-Drive, perpetual-calendar watch. I had the same problems with the wonky bluetooth connection. However, last month (January 2015), I was asked by Citizen to return it for a firmware update. They paid for all shipping, and I had it back in one week. And now -- making the bluetooth connection to my iPhone is all controlled by the phone (as it should be), and is nearly foolproof. After I read and re-read the new instructions, I had no problems with the initial sync. After that, connecting and re-connecting are automatic. To answer the "why" of this phone: I don't worry about the phone calls or emails, or the disconnect warning; they work, but really, who cares? I like my Proximity because of the time sync feature. I travel a great deal, and get pretty tired of re-setting my watch when I hit a new time zone. I have other watches that deal with time zones, but none as easily as this one. With the Proximity, as soon as the plane lands and I turn on my iPhone, I connect my watch -- and my Proximity is correctly set to the phone company's time tick, without my doing another thing. I LOVE that part.
