Hey guys, I have a quick question. I'm heading over to Europe for about 10 days tomorrow and I was planning on bringing 4 or 5 watches with me. Will I have any issues coming through customs when I come back into the US. Do I need to somehow show that I didn't buy the watches in Europe. Thanks Nick

Usually, when a person buys a watch in europe, they come with a Factory Box, that is usually how cusoms tells if the watch was purchased abroad or not, If you have them in a travel carrier, they wont mess with you at all. I usually take 15 watches with me when traveling and I have never been bothered Its the Hash you want to be really careful about packing ![]() You going for business or pleasure? lucky dawg

It depends on what watches you are taking, under $200us each not a problem, over you might want to look in to it... and I have heard about people loosing there Rolex's at the US do to no papers... but they are popular also if you have them wraped without all the boxes it should be fine with 5 or so... Papers and boxes make it look like you have just bought them just like Hucky has said... have a good trip... Last edited on Mon Mar 24th, 2008 11:12 pm by noahfuller |

Thanks guys, that's what I thought, I am going to bring the receipts for the watches I bought from an AD and the threads for the watches I bought off the forum, just in case ....I'm sure it will be fine. It's starting out as business, but I planned the business trip to maybe make a little stop in Switzerland at a little watch show I heard about....not sure if it will work out, we'll see.

For travelling I just bring one cheap watch like a Seiko Automatic in the event that if it gets lost, stolen or damaged - I don't have to worry about it. I have probably lost more Seiko 5 Automatics in this process while travelling overseas than any other make. However buying a watch overseas is another matter. If it is a used Jaeger-LeCoultre from the 1950's and is on my wrist, Canadian Customs Officials simply ignore me. One time, a passenger on the same flight wasn't so lucky-as we arrived back in Vancouver. Customs Officials confiscated his entire assortment of high end watches, that were still in boxes. From what I saw, he must of had an enitre suitcase full of Rolexes,Patek Philippes and other expensive makes. The RCMP was called into the terminal and he was dragged away in handcuffs to questioning. I stepped outside the terminal, glance at my Jaeger-LeCoultre and smiled. Watch was later sold to a friend.

I say leave them home. Wear a watch you like and suffer through the 10 days. Too many ways luggae, etc. can get lost. Your hotel should have a safe too.

If you buy a watch over there, wear it home and ship the box back!

Nick, I am becoming more and more convinced of bringing only one or two watches for traveling. And if I am bringing the best, I will wear it continually. As of late I've taken to wearing an homage when on the road. Hope the trip goes well and you come back with some goodies or at least good stories to share.

Bring COPIES of your receipts, just for emergencies...however, be aware that you will have to store the watches in hotel safes or you will never have any peace of mind. I usually never take more than 2 or 3 max!
