Oops - that would be "impressions" - sorry!

Hi y'all

It was probably just me, but I noticed a heck of a lot of Ventura Time by Design watches for sale on the bay recently. V-Matics, chronos, Sparxx, COSC chronometers - there was a bit of a glut of them, but it did not seem to affect prices that much:shock: and almost all have gone now after being sold as old stock from the odd vendor who is trying to get max dollars and get rid of the diminishing stock line..

I know there are a few VTbD owners here - what are your thoughts on ownership please?

My present favourites, and the ones on which I would like some feedback if alright with you guys/girls- are the funky auto-LCD models, the nicest of which IMHO is this one (not my pic - photographer unknown):

But prices are getting waaaaay up there depending on when you see it, where it is listed and who is selling...

What is a decent one worth if it is near-NOS? What are they like to own and service? Do they wear big or are they too small for today's tastes?

Your kind opinions would be appreciated. Not looking to buy one today - just having a serious think about one...  would y'all recommend them?

Cheers - IanM

Don't own any but kick myself for not getting in when the prices were much lower.

The one you have pictured there is very kewl. The first digital automatic watch is sweet. Here is a write up on it you all may enjoy.

Thanks Skip. Excellent link! With or without the exposed case-top - very kewl.

It has gone the way of the Precista Dreadnought, hasn't it :(. I should have become a WIS much sooner, I guess :?.

The odd rectangular BMW-series "big numbers" LCD crops up occasionally, but not too many of these MGS models. Will have to keep an eye out hand6.gif - but still wanna know what the owners think out there...

Cheers!

I've glanced over to the Watch-u-Seek Website there
was a used Ventura V-Tech Sigma Automatic LCD for $999.

However the post was dated to Feb.22-23,2008.
This should give some idea as to what the used prices are
for this watch.

thankyou.gif Simon!  I saw that one too. Didn't jump on it. Should have... :?

I am going to keep looking because I think it might be nice to add a quality LCD to my collection - but like all of us I am after that elusive bargain...

They are as rare as rocking-horse poop! :D (Australian humour...) hehe

Have a great day good sir - Ian hand6.gif

Gee whiz Simon - you are a terrific researcher!

I will speak with the seller and see what they have. Best news I have had in ages - thank you!

I have collected Ventura's over the past 5 years and own 6 from a v-tronic,v-matic,gmt,worldtimer and 2 chronos which if you use the search engine you can see pics....below is a pic of my favorite the GMT COSC....I think they were one of the best watches ever built and the CEO referred to his designs as "watch architecture"....their titanium models which used their patented Tantalum were scratch resistant a 1st for Ti watches ....the eta movements were fully decorated and COSC....at one time they led in COSC quartz movements being certified as wellhand6.gif

....btw Princeton watch has only  1 model left and it is priced at 35% off MSRP which is still much higher than they sold for before going out of bussinesscoyote2.gif.....Ventura's have become highly collectible and garner some pretty high prices and rumor has it Lior/SWI is interested in buying the brand....I bought 3 of my Venturas on Slop some years ago;)

I like that one Ian that's pretty neat, different, not the usual digital. That's a pretty cool GMT too Oscar has an unusual style to it as all of them do I guess.

O - that COSC GMT is a beauty, I must say! It is a very sweet piece of design. I will trawl the posts and see if I can get a better look at your others (wow - thats a heck of a collection of VTbDs you've got, good sir!!). I have put an e-mail in to Princeton watches - let's see what they come back with. And of course the Aussie dollar has nosedived in the last two weeks, so that less 35% is more like less 25% in AUD today mistake.gif even compared to last week...

I just wanted to know what the ownership experience was for 3Ters who have them. We can't really talk about service - cos there won't be any, really, in terms of factory support. But I value your opinion on fit, finish, accuracy and collectability. Such a pity that the company did not survive. LCD has long been considered the "poor man's cousin" to the more usual analog autos and handcrankers, but these VTbDs took the watch world by the throat and shook hard. I would love to add one to the collection, but am still a bit unsure about how big they wear. Most were in the 34 to 38mm diameter range and I wouldn't wear a small watch - unless it was legible. That was why I thought about this Ventura LCD.

Do you think one of the MGS models would be worthwhile?? Are they temperamental?

And AntFarm - I agree. These are cool as a cucumber. Some models have anatomic casebacks, some have double curved crystals, bauhaus design, simplified crown functions, some round, some rectangular, some with huge LCD readouts and some with a more restrained design - interesting little oddities that aren't available elsewhere then or now. Glad you like!

Thanks for the feedback men - much appreciated! The search goes on....
