While waiting for my incoming Omega, I have been looking at several Seamasters in the sales forums. An important part of them come without 2 or the 3 cards that I am getting (Chronometer Certificate, International Warranty and Pictogram - the latter one does come in some, but I guess it is the least "interesting"). I assume most come from the gray market (mine was purchased by the seller from an AD)? Do the original papers/cards make any difference in the value of a pre-owned watch?

JMO but I think it is important to have the papers, especially on a high end watch...not sure how it effects the value but I doubt i would buy a high end watch without the boxes and papers

Depending on the age of the watch, the warranty cert may not be that important. But if it's COSC certed, I would expect it to come with the cert, or if there is a way to reorder the cert (I'm sure they keep records based on serial number), that the seller adjusted his price accordingly. IMHO.

That's only been an issue for me one time- again with a Seamaster. The seller had them; but I honestly don't know if it would have been a deal breaker if he hadn't. Maybe; since I didn't know the guy. I suppose it might add an extra bit of security against fakes; although if you can fake a whole watch you can certainly fake a little plastic card. Good question- I'm curious to see where others stand on this.

I always want the papers. I believe it's an indication of how well the piece was taken care of... If you can't maintain the papers or box how well did you take care of the watch itself?

I never buy watches second hand. It's just a quirk of mine. If ever I buy a second hand watch, this might be my rule: No box, No papers, No deal. For vintage Seikos, however, I'd make an exception as these may be sourced from the 3rd or 4th owner etc. But if I chance upon a vintage Seiko complete with everything, I'd pay a premium. This simply reflects the discipline of the owner and his respect for good housekeeping. So far, I haven't come across a Seiko vintage seller who can show me everything.

it depends on the watch imo but a box and papers make any collectible more valuable...especially vintage but it wouldn't break a deal if the price was right and the seller was reputable.....no box no papers brings the value down imho and I expect to pay less on purchases that are not accompanied by them.hand6.gif
