Nice to see SLOP adding lost of new brands.

I am unfamiliar with C-D, but they look llike outstanding timepieces. I especially like the Abyss 1000 diver, but at $900, too rich for my blood. Awesome dive watch, however.

Jim

I did.  I thought the show was a mess.  The lady reminded me of a older Eyal with a wig.  Isn't the Abyss what Invicta knocked-off?  The best part was when they were talking about a watch and Jim asked her if you could find that watch in a retail store for $199.  She answered him with a YES.  He almost fell out of his chair.  He was like, really.  She then said yes at $199.  She finally realized what she was saying and said, no, at $299.  It was classic.  She was also groping his arms.  It was all very odd.  I did like seeing new watches though.  I would also agree that they looked nice.  The deal was the one with the 7754 imo.  I couldn't find another brand near that price.  Other than that,  they seemed a bit steep.

They have made it for a while the 1000 is feet not meters.  It is a good watch from the samples that I have seen.  The original retail was $999 or so, but they have bumped it up over time.  The bracelet and case are the cost.  They made 4000 total or 1000 total can not remember has been to long from the debut, it may be on the website.  It is a little pricey.  Most people like them, some have problems usually the quartz models.  Even with the tight tolerances they have "supposedly", they will still lose time on high G tuns, but that is not there fault, and only know a few people that would even ever care (sure would not affect me).  The new diver is a knock off of the original Sub-Aqua with a 2824 and other mods.  The edit commands in CAD are so much more powerful than the draw commands.  Given an hour I could take a drawing and change it so much that you would swear the sky was green and the grass was blue.

I'm confused.  Are you saying that the original SubAqua is not based on the CD Abyss?

The Sub's last production cycle was in early 2004 from what I remember or late 2003.  When was the CD produced?  I personaly thought it was released in 2003 with a marketing campain in late 2003 to early 2004.  My memory is not perfect, I may be wrong.

The Sub Aqua was definately a 2004 model.  As far as the Abyss goes.....  I can't tell.  The diamond encrusted version was introduced in 2004.  The press release reads like this.

The massive 44mm ABYSS 1000 AUTOMATIC with its ETA 2824-2 automatic movement and 3 different dial colors is a
limited edition of 99 pieces, now brilliantly covered with hand set, bright white diamonds in a manner that makes it
irresistible to the discerning luxury buyer. Sure to be a unique attention getter wherever they are displayed, these
watches fully deserve the "awesome" label in all their various diamond executions. They are priced up to $25,000.

The word "now" makes me think there was a previous version without diamonds.  I also found a dealer site selling the regular Abyss.  The Abyss page had been updated in Feb 2004.  Which would lead you to believe that it was presented prior to that date.  However, All the places that have some for sell on ebay refer to them as 2005.

So I will chalk it up to another manufacturing mystery.  Since I have no idea.  I will kindly take back my knock off remark.  I thought it was before.  Although I could definately be wrong.

The CD was in add slicks in mid 2004.  They are a lot alike though.  The case of the Sub looks a lot like case of the Gorge J Vonberg or the Oris divers.  The braclet could be inspired loosely, very loosely, from the Seiko monster.  In reality design element can come from any where.  I would knock Invicta if I could, you are just going to have to trust me on that one.  I think this time the Contract Eng. for Invicta got it done first.

This was once discussed at length on the Old Forum with Pics and the Whole Gambit :P The Sub Aqua Noma was a Close Facsimile To the Abyss....Very Close and that is What lead some of Us to Believe Sector was Building the Sub Aqua and had some Involvement with Invicta....Since then We Have Been a bit More Educated and Know Invicta is Associated only With Outsourcing All their Work To China..(at one time Japan)with the "Swiss Made" Models only Having Swiss Movements and Final Assembly and Inpection by the Swiss ...The 1st SubAquas had a Rotor Sticking Problem and I am Sure those Who Own the Latest Rendition are experiencing Some Sort of headaches with the New SAII if they are actually being Worn :P My SubAqua was Repaired Twice by a Local Watchmaker who called it "Junk" but then anything other than a Rolex is Junk to Him :Pand BTW....I missed the Chase Show..but that is Only because I can only listen to just so Much BS and Self Promotion without throwing something at my TV :P:P

I think from the rotors that I herd about, and still do, wasn't that from Invicta trying to outsource the work to so many diff. people and no one was talking to each other or overseeing the final assembly.  In short they were taking a lot of shortcuts to max profitability.  The new Sub I know very little about, so can not comment on.
