One thing I really appreciate about Jean Marcel guilloche dials is that they are not stamped, but done by hand!   cool10.gif

The guilloche interlace pattern a conventional enriched moulding in classical architecture, may enclose empty space or be rosetted as it is here; the result is a moulding that could be said to be guilloché. Bands of guillloche, picked up from Roman and Renaissance practice, became a widely-used motif of Neoclassicism.

A Guilloché or engine turning pattern is an ornamental pattern formed of two or more curved bands that interlace to repeat a circular design, most commonly seen on banknotes. These patterns were traditionally used for security printing purposes as a protection against counterfeit and forgery, as well as for decorating valuable objects such as Fabergé eggs and pocket watches.

The thing about the def. that I always found strange especially after I had some cars restored that had engine turned engines and dashes, is that the processes and tools are totally different.  I know the relative time of the original usage and put things on the proper time frame of reference, but when I think of engine turning I think of cars, not the engines of clocks and watches.  I guess that is because restoring cars is a hobby and a passion I got from my father.

I caught all the shows on S@H and was impressed with the JMs. They seem to do a lot of full day of the week style watches which I like a lot.

They had some really nice watches which made Shop's wares look cheap in comparision. :D
