I do not think your paranoid because I myself have been screwed by rigged auctions .... on Ebay and in live car auctions where the auctioneer has talented boosters bid on cars when they can tell a buyer is interested .... these pro boosters can read buyers like thier playing poker, and they seem to know when to bail

I don't mind the new format. It protects sellers and buyers.

When I posted 20 watches up in december, some of the bidders were getting offers from other ebayers with the same watch for sale because there user id showed in the bidders list. I pulled 4 watches down because of it. One guy with balls sent me a email about the laptop I was selling to link me to his store where they sold for less! of course his were remanufactured. There are so many bad people on the bay now, you either bid to your personal limit or use the buy it now button. how many of you get a 2nd chance offer because of false bidding? I get quite a bit. Sometimes I'm 7th down on the list.

All of this is well and good.............................but it is still no reason NOT to be paranoid when dealing with the unethical business practices rampant at SlopNBC!

I checked into slopnbc when this thread started. I think after watching 3 of there auctions to the end you are right. Somehow there used watches get bid up to more than they sold for new. since its a buyers market and people with highfeedback don't get sucked in to a losing bidding war. Not one of the auctions I watched had a winning bidder feedback of more than 10 and all 10 were bids  on slops products.

There have been several Seiko's from Asia that have had VERY weird bidding that were relisted after being "Sold".  Nearly all of them were from the same seller.  Either he has an endless supply of King Seiko Chronometers with the same scratches on them or there's something fishy about his listings.

I've sold a couple of watches on the bay.  My luck was with me as they were each too affordable to attact any of the sharks that swim in those waters.  I've learned to pre-set my limit and then abide by it.  The false bidding and other tricks there are just out of control.  There are NO contingencies on the operators of the site because of how the fee structure is set.  PayPal is a joke when you use it on eBay - its like playing with a Guy named "Doc"'s dice in a "friendly game".  Don't do it.

CJ,

Because eBay owns PayPal and they have rigged the Roulette table.  Basically, if someone claims that they did not receive the item PayPal automatically refunds their money (if it is in the account).  However, if there is no money on account then you are basically SOL in getting your money back unless you used a CC for the transaction.  If you used a CC then you have to go through them to get the money refunded.  However, and this is a big one, that means that PP can bar you in future from using PP.coyote2.gif

Basically, its a game - they own the table and make money no matter what but they are not about to enforce rules on high vol sellers nor actually go after anyone if it takes any real effort on their part.

I use PP for eBay but never leave much money in the account.  If I am buying from someone I do not know I fund the purchase through a CC to add a layer of protection.

I use paypal on all my transactions. The other forum members here who do business with me can verify it. yes, ebay and paypal are one and the same. I only buy on ebay using paypal. Its the only form of payment thats covered under the buyers protection act of ebay. Regaurdless of how you fund paypal, you are covered up to 2000.00 on a purchase. to be a verified member you use your bank account as primary, and a cc as your back up source. If you get screwed on a transaction, paypal will start a inquiry on your behalf. If you win, and you will as long as you followed the guidelines set forth by the seller, you get your money back minus a 25.00 fee. thats ebay paying you back up to the 2000.00 limit if the seller refuses to refund or freezes there bank account to stop a payment to paypal. You always get your money back. You don't get it back on wire transfers, bidpay or western union. any auction that doesn't take paypal I stay away from. Its just a seller with something to hide. I have filed disputes before on watches and won every time. either the seller paid or ebay paid with the automatic insurance protection.

I wouldn't buy/sell anything on e-bay without paypal...watch2.gifI prefer to see who I am bidding against but there are many vendors on e-bay who know their way around both e-bay and paypal and use it to their advantage and they are the ones to look out for!...maybe with this new system it won't be so easy to fraud anyonehand6.gif
