Soliciting thoughts/opinions on the variety and quality of movements used in under $100 automatics. Within the last week, I've received two autos...a Lucien Piccard and an Alpha, each watch costing well under $100. I've posted pics of each. The Alpha is keeping good time and I'm very happy with it but the LP is slow. It looses about 3 min./day...not that big a deal to me because I won't be wearing it every day. I really like the look of the watch and will keep it in rotation but dissapointed with the lack of accuracy. I guess at that price, I shouldn't be surprised but the Alpha cost less and is right on time! I'll probably get another Alpha but are there other brands in that price range or up to $200 that anyone would recommend?

How much did the Lucien cost and is it waterproof. If the answer to one is not much and the answer to the second question is not really or don't care then I would be tempted to take the thing apart and try and regulate it myself. If nothing else you end up with it still out of time a bit, but a lot wiser to the internal workings. Maybe its just the engineer in me.

Mike...I would send the LP back if you can....3mins. per day fast is not good and from experience it probably won't get better by anyones standardscoyote2.gif....most automatics require some break-in time and cost doesn't really dictate as to how accurate a watch will be ..I have many watches running within COSC specs that cost much less than those that are in my collection....sometimes it's just the luck of the draw,although your luck is much better with mid to higher end watches...imhohand6.gif

$59 after Amazon discount...says water resistant to 3 ATM but no screw down crown. I don't really care about that...I would never get it wet anyway. I'm an engineer myself and intrigued at the idea of taking it apart althought my first move may be to find a jewler willing to take a look at it. Can you suggest a good source for learning about watch repair, what tools are needed, etc?

 What am I thinking...the thing has a lifetime warranty!! I'll just send it back to LP and they'll either repair or replace it!

My worst watch was +15 a day, and that was a gsar. Everything else will average out to anywhere from zero to plus 6. On the less expensive models, there are some 300m divers that I bought for the kids that are bullet proof and run around + 15 a day. A Deporte diver can be had for around 55.00. a very good looking watch and dependable.

My LM-1 runs about +1sec/day. The Orsa Lume Sea Angler runs about +8sec/day. Interesting to see how the 3T angler compares...

The orsas seem to level out when worn every day. Mine are fast on the winder, but spot on on the wrist.

I will take a watch back from a customer if it varies more than 60 seconds per day.
