Snagged this 6309 off the big auction site about two months ago from a well known and reputable purveyor of these watches. I had purchased two others from the same overseas seller during the last year and a half; both of those were pretty nice and exactly as advertised. This one though....not so much. Upon arrival, I found that the day/date wheels could not be set using the crown (through they would advance if left to do so on their own over night) and the second hand would periodically bounce and/or pause. The watch was listed as having had a recent "movement service" but clearly something was amiss. Rather than ask the seller to deal with it, I sent it off to Bob T. for some diagnosis and possible TLC. "Let me know if it's even worth saving" I told him. It wasn't terribly expensive to purchase in the first place, so if it was a total loss I wouldn't be too disappointed, but I was secretly hoping it could be brought back to life. About a month has passed and Bob sent me an e-mail today. Turns out this "recently serviced movement" had the following issues: -Movement was flooded with oil. -Train bridge was bent, it was trued. -Replaced cannon pinion and day/date drive wheel. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know exactly how bad that is, but "flooded with oil" and anything "bent" sounds pretty severe to me. Bob also did a full relume for me and was kind enough to send these pics...should be on my wrist next week. :D

Scott what's the out come with to much oil, who ever serviced it put to much oil in it? Glad to hear that it was fixable.

Yeah, it sounds like that was the case; an overly enthusiastic application of oil. You know, 'cause if a little bit is good, then a lot must be better, right?  So many times with these vintage pieces, it's hard to know how healthy they really are, so it will surely be nice to have the piece of mind that a professional has taken it apart, made it right, and given it his seal of approval. 6309-7040's have always had a way of displacing the other watches in my collection for daily wear....something about that classic design.

Bob T. does nice work, and is also a nice guy hand6.gif Congrats on getting your 6309 up and running. :) My overall experience with vintages has put me off them forever, even when I see a nice piece from a reputable seller. I have no decent watchmakers in the area so they all have to be boxed up and sent off. I have a 6139-7100 chrono that needs restoration, and I need a crown for my 6105 diver. I won't even go on about the trials I have had with my vintage Orient King Diver, but it is out for the 4th and last time...
