One of the greatest games I've watched since the Jayhawks took it to Oklahoma for their last (20 years ago) National Championship when Danny Manning was a player...what a comeback!

I'm still in a horrible mood over that one.   If Memphis won, I would have taken the third-place prize in my pool ($340).  9 points up with 2.5 minutes left, I was about to buy the vintage Omega I wanted when I went to the bathroom.  When I came back, the lead was almost gone.  Then it *was* gone, and so was my Omega.  Good thing I didn't pull the trigger on it pre-maturely.

It's never good when the inferior team wins, but I guess the possibility of that happening is what makes sports interesting.

PAX...yes I am...or, perhaps, I was a child prodigy! subtlelaugh.gif

YARGH...inferior team?  Not exactly what the results say!  That said, the "inferior team" became superior by taking advantage of the "superior team's" obvious inferiority.  Memphis has the absolute worst record in college b=ball at the free throw line.  Memphis was not superior enough to take a 7 point lead with 2 minutes left in the game to the finish line...simply not good enough to close the deal! mistake.gif

Not really sure if you watch basketball much, but Kansas was the markedly inferior team.  They were a 2 seed at best. But hey, sometimes that happens -- like when Villanova beat G'town, or when Syracuse smoked... Kansas.

Yes....really!  They tied it up by exploiting a team inferior to most others at the free throw line and then trounced them in OT!  So...yes, really!

Maybe this coachng theory is wrong but.....with a 3 point lead and 7.6 seconds....by my math..now follow me............

1 foul=2 free throws

2 free throws made=2 points

3-2=1

Does not Memphis win the game???????????mistake.gifmistake.gifmistake.gif

It was one of the best games I have seen though.

Bottom line: you can't count on winning games with "if only" when you only shoot 59% from the charity line...The answer is no...Memphis does not win the game if it comes down to making points on fouls!...and what, pray tell, happened to this "superior team" in overtime?

Ken I couldn't agree with you more. You have got to be able to make clutch free throws if you have any chance of winning. That was abysmal and even though I dearly wanted Memphis to make me a winner, they did not deserve to win the game based on their performance last night. Hail to the Jayjawks!!

It was a great grame!! Thumbsup3.gif

But, Tony, I do see the logic.  The logic is that if Memphis could have only sunk another free throw, they would have won the game.  The logic is that "if" was a long shot given their abysmal record of making free throws all year long (worst in the nation).  The logic is that Coach Self took advantage of that weakness when the pressure was on to get back in the game...and once back in the game (because Memphis was out coached...and then out played)...they took Memphis to the cleaners by outplaying them in overtime. yourock.gif  The logic is that this is not a "what if" world...and the NCAA Tournament is not a "what if" tournament...otherwise, they would simply play it on computers! subtlelaugh.gif

The position that Memphis would have won "if only" is the emotional response. subtlelaugh.gif The fact is that free throws have plagued Memphis all season long and their coach is on record saying that his team played so well they didn't need to score from the free throw line.  Memphis, at least in this particular game, was out coached and out played.  Yes, Kansas game back from a huge deficit to tie, and then won in overtime by a 7 point margin...THAT is what great teams do! :dude:

And I add.....ta da!!!! yahoo.gif
