This is driving me nuts i am thinking of cancelling my Moray 2 order and getting a Meg 2 while i can i like the look of PVD but how resilient is it does it scratch or mark easy, i imagine marks on PVD show up a lot more than Brushed or blasted...Help!!

I have a Meg LE in PVD and 2 Meg 2's in brushed with little to no scuff marks. My polished Meg LE is another story. Get the one you want. The Meg is a very tough watch in any finish. Note - it's a MUCH thicker watch than the moray.

if you're hard on watches it doesn't matter what finish you get but for what it's worth brushed is the easiest to care for....

Irregardless of finish, in my experience, a watch can get dings, swirls and scratches no matter how careful I am. I also notice that for my more sensitive finishes, like brushed ti, these watches get scratched easier. Again, it's how one uses the watch and the accidental bumps that will determine the "damage". All it takes is a watch with a technically superior coating (like PVD or DLC) to get one big bump and that's it. Strangely, on my very much cheaper Seikos in 316L, I hardly see scratches or maybe it's because I care less because of the much lower value(???). Get the watch that you like best that also suits your liefstyle.

I might be strange, but I like my watches to have personal character, or to look like they have seen some life. I also like my PVD to look like steel and not like plastic, so I intentionally sanded the corners,edges, and bezel of this PVD Worldiver and now I think it looks like black steel, like a well used gun. look at this well broken in SR71 cockpit, and this was not a cheap tool

You're not alone Steve. I met a WIS at an AD a few months ago that also sanded the edges and corners of his Dievas Black Diamond. Then, he applied some acid on the leather strap to make the entire watch look really beat up and distressed. I really loved the look but don't have the "cojones" to do that to any of my pieces.

The second day I had my pvd meg 2, it came into contact with the very sharp aluminum corner of a drawer on my toolbox that was so sharp it could have cut a finger. It looked awful: like a thin straight scratch running from the edge of the bezel down the side of the case. When it happened I could hear the "scrape". Very bummed out, I put on the optivisor and picked up a rouge cloth. What I thought was a scratch was just aluminum residue that came off with a light rub of the cloth, good as new. The sharp corner hadn't scratched the pvd at all, I was impressed.....and very relieved! I know, shoulda taken some pics.....Granted aluminum is softer than steel, but I've had other pvd items that will scratch from less. Also, I suggest getting the Meg 2 and the Moray 2...very different watches, and both exceptionally cool! Last edited on Fri Oct 22nd, 2010 09:29 am by timesofplenty |
