Hey guys...just picked up a NIB VX-200,yes the Shnoop deal the some may have jumped on a while back. Well i just got mine yesterday (not from shnoop) and it's dead! Meaning no matter how many times i wind the friggin' thing, the movement won't run. The seller says he got it a while back and never wore it. He is correct because all of the plastic is still on the bracelet clasp and it's never been sized. Anyway he tells me that since it sat for so long,it may have to be "wound by an expert". Am i a dummy or what?? It's a pretty standard 2824 movement, correct? Usually you give 'er a little shake and/or turn the crown several times to get it going. I did all that and nada!! It's on the winder now. He insists that if i can't get it going myself,i'd have to take it in to a jeweler to wind the mainspring. OK guys...what do you think?? Any suggestions? Is this normal? Anyone else have the same problem with a VX-200? I appreciate any and all feedback. Randy ![]()

Can you hear the rotor spinning when you shake it? And dose it start up at all, second hand movement, when you shake it? They can gunk up but that usually takes quite a bit of time. Try to avoid the jeweler till all else fails. If the rotor spins and you do get some momentary movement spinning in the winder or wearing on the wrist could give it a jump start after a few hours. If that works it could take a good week to get the movement to settle down and start working properly. But if it is showing no life may need to be seen by a pro. Call and get quotes if no warranty is covering such.

if i wrap it against my left palm holding the watch in my right hand, the rotor will spin a few times. But no hand movement (seconds hand). I did get it to run for a minute or so when i was continually winding it fast...it went all the way around starting around the 15 seconds mark....when it reached the 12:00 position,it started to slow down and stop. I just turned the crown i'm not kidding you like 150 times!!coyote2.gif Still nothing. It's brand new so i don't really wanna crack it open. I don't even want to size the bracelet to wear it to see if it runs. I'd like to keep it new as possible in case he takes it back....which he already told me he does not want to. Well this kind of stuff really sours me on buying watches from people. I'll ask him if he got it from Shnoop and see if he has some sort of a receipt. Maybe i can return it and say it was a gift.

Randy, My uneducated guess is that the rotor might be loose. If it spins freely that is not typical for a 2824 since they wind in either direction. The only issue with this theory is that I think it should still manually wind so the mainspring might be messed up. I dont think its a big fix for a competent watchmaker if you have one in your area.

I appreciate the feedback. Now that i think about it,a customer of mine is a retired watchmaker from the "old country" as he says. He has told me many stories of how he made his own movements from scratch. It was part of his training and passing his watchmaker exams. I may just give him a call tomorrow! Otherwise there are a few guys local i can take it to. The thing that pisses me off is the seller must think i'm a moron and i don't know how an automatic movement works...i was even second guessing myself at one point thinking i was doing something wrong. That'll teach me.......right now i'm just bummed about it. I wanted to wear it right when i got it. ![]()

Please tell me you didn't but it from a recent sale at WUS...and...SEND IT BACK. There are others that are coming on the market. The seller should either take it back or pay for the repair.

Tell him to F-off...it was his responsibility to send you a working watch. If he wants you to take it to a watchmaker for a "special winding", then he needs to anti-up for the expense. He's the AHO here. If he won't do that then let us know who it is, and report him to the forum owner he sold the watch on.

i bought it on eBay!! maybe a dumb move! but Shnoop did not have it anymore and i could not find a black one. ok,this is what he says: "Randy, The watch has sat stagnant for a long period of time just as I have stated in my listing, which may have caused the mainspring to completely become unwound. On numerous occasions, including just before I shipped the watch, I was able to move the watch vigorously and the the second hand did begin to move. It would count off a few seconds then stop. This shows me it will work and will just need to be worn regularly to keep the charge once the mainspring has been wound. Again, because it has been just sitting for so long the mainspring is probably totally unwound. I dont want to have an unsatisfied customer, but I did clearly state that winding of the mainspring might be neccesary, and if you need to bring the watch to an expert to do so, then it is your responsibility. The watch is 100 percent new and never worn, so I did list it accurately. Even though brand new, items do occasionally need to be "recharged" by an expert, and I did state that in this watches case, that might be neccesary. I do want to resolve this as best as we can, but I am not simply going to just take the watch back, because as you knew when u bid on the item, it may need to be wound, and if you do not have the tools to do so, an expert would. We need to have some common ground here, and I believe it begins with you doing what you can to charge the mainspring. Thank you. " (name withheld)

Ken's right he sold it he can accept it back and deal with having the watch fixed. for a guy who swears it was perfect he is sure trying hard to convince you it's your problem. keep it civilized but get him to take it back. I suppose you can try calling the accutron service center... they may be willing to honor the warranty for you...
