I need some advice from the more experienced watch collectors on the forum.

I recently purchased a Mido Commander on eBay from a seller in Singapore. (I know, I know). The seller had very good eBay ratings with no negatives. Before the auction closed I sent the seller a question asking him/her to confirm that the watch was a "genuine" Mido. The auction closed and I sent payment. Right after sending the payment I received a response from the seller to my question that read, "Yes this is a genuine Mido but not manufactured in Switzerland. This is manufactured in a licensed Mido factory from Thailand." There is a photo of the movement that is inside the watch and it very cleary says "Swiss Twentyfive 25 Jewels A/H28'800 Mido Commander." Upon closer inspection I could see a very tiny "T" in front of "Swiss" and after "Made" on the dial of the watch. I believe this indicates that the Mido was made in Thailand. So I believe this is a genuine Mido watch with genuine Swiss parts that has been assembled in Thailand. I am in the process of contacting the seller to see if I can cancel my order. My question is, "Does a recognizable brand like Mido that is made in Thailand have the same value as a Mido that says "Swiss Made?" Maybe I am needlessly worried? I did read the discussion elsewhere on Swiss Made, Swiss Movt. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.;)

a T in front and behind the swiss made indication means that the watch lume has some tritium in it, or something like that, I dont think it has anything to do with Thailand. Is this one of the NOS Mido Commanders like this one?

Yes, it looks just like that. If you go to eBay and and search for Mido you'll find a number of Midos being sold. I hadn't thought of "t" for tritium. That seems odd that other Midos in the $400-700 range don't have this indication. I also haven't read any description of Midos indicating that they used tritium.

For a time all Swiss manufacturers were required to put a T on the dial if the lume contained Tritium, not just Mido.

Tritium has since been banned because of its slight radioactivity...that is why newer watches do not carry the T on the dial.

Your is likely NOS and made during the time when Tritium was still in use.

When you get the watch you can email the serial number on the back to MIdo and they will tell you if the watch is authentic.

The whole Thailand story the seller gave you is total bullsh*t.

Thanks! At $93.00 it's pretty hard to beat! :D I'just started collecting and one of the brands I am interested in is Mido along with Oris and Fortis.

I've got two Midos (including the one being discussed) and another on the way. Great watches for the money, with a cool retro look. This one is about 38mm, but since it's all dial, it looks bigger. The Commander designation indicates that it has Mido's one piece case design. The Oceanstar designation indicates it has Mido's Aquadura cork gasket at the winding stem which is supposed to ensure a WR of up to 50M even if the crown is pulled out-- thus Ocean Stars don't need screw down crowns.
