Hello, I'm happened upon this forum by accident, but I have a question! I remember when Swatch watches were popular and you could use a coin to open up the back and change the battery. I swore I'd never buy a watch that didn't have that feature again. So now I've been given a $50 watch and it costs $10 everytime I need to have the battery replaced! Actually I have one watch I can pop the back off of, but this one takes that little tool to get a grip on the back to unscrew it. My question is... would it be worth it to buy that tool and then I could change batteries for myself and friends for the rest of my life! Thanks so much, Peter

Thanks. That's a good deal. I guess they do it so they can keep trying to sell you a new watch! What's the tool called and where would I get one? Maybe eBay, but I don't know what to search for. Or is there a way to get the back off without the tool? Since it's only a $50 watch and no one will ever see the back, I don't care if I scratch it a little. Peter

peterinwa wrote: Peter...what kind of watch is it? and does it have little indentations/notches around the caseback...or a snap off case? The tools vary in Price and can be had pretty inexpensive depending on quality :)...check this link for tools at Ofrei...they have very good values :) http://www.watch-tool.de/shop.php Thanks. That's a good deal. I guess they do it so they can keep trying to sell you a new watch!

Peter ...could you tell us the name of the watch and the model ? Sometimes the back pops off and all you need is a small strong screwdriver...but if you buy the tool it WILL pay off in the long run...Just be sure to buy a universal tool..

It has the slots so I'm sure it needs the tool. I see them really cheap on eBay. I know you get what you pay for but to do this on an inexpensive watch every few years I'm sure it will be fine. Problem now is I type for a living and at the moment it's pretty difficult! Just had to try one more time with a screwdriver and I put a very big one in my fingers... just short of needing stitches. I'm laughing about it now, but my... I can be such a stubborn idiot. It's not the money so much, it's that I just think it's dumb that you have to take an inexpensive watch to a jeweler to have the battery changed. Oh well! I think I'll just buy a cheap tool. Thanks everyone, and please don't anyone express sympathy. I deserve what I got! Peter
