I have an Invicta Ocean Ghost II containing a Miyota 8215 movement with the dreaded film under the crystal problem. So, I opened it up to get rid of it. I didn't have any problem locating the watch stem removal button. I removed the entire movement and face of the watch with no problem. I cleaned the back side of the crystal and replaced the movement in the watch case. I then inserted the watch stem back into the side of the movement until it clicked back into place. This is the problem. I can wind the watch, but I cannot set the time or the date. What have I done wrong? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

The stem and gear are out of sink of sort. Try to pull the stem out and reinsert it while holding down on the button, the gear running perpendicular to the stem should be closest to the case and then insert it. It may take a few tries, but without getting to tech. that is the easiest way to explain it. I have been up for 35+ hrs. so I am sorry if it is hard to follow.

I tried again, but still cannot get the watch to wind and set properly. When you say, "the gear running perpendicular to the stem should be closest to the case," I get confused. How can I get this gear to move or line up prior to inserting the stem? Thanks for your continued assistance. :)

It happened to me on my TRIAS cushion case with swiss ETA movement when I tried to remove the moist underneath the crystal. It's a trial and error thing so please be patient.

I may be thinking of the Myota movement, but if it still is not working the pull the crown out as far as it will go and hold down on the button and easily slide it out a little. I hold down on the button get it to release and then slide the stem out a little more until it clicks. There again I may be thinking of another movement so just try it. I will check one out tonight and see, but it is hard to explain how to sink it back up, I just do it by feel and just knowing how far the stem was sticking out of the case when fully extended. You just get a feel for it and it gets easy, after you do it wrong a few times.

You just get a feel for it and it gets easy, after you do it wrong a few times. Thanks again for your continued assistance, but I am still having no luck. I have no trouble getting the stem to release entirely from the movement. I do have trouble getting it to go back in though. I have worked with this for several days and can find no particular pattern or trick to what makes the stem go back in. I have tried holding down the release button as I re-insert the stem. I have tried inserting it without holding down the button. Sometimes one works, and sometimes it is the other way around. As I said, there is no pattern that I can discern which explains when the crown will click back in. Regardless, at no time will it reengage the movement of the hands or the date mechanism. The stem will click into all three positions, but in all three it winds the watch. This seems weird to me, since the watch should wind on only the first click stop and not all three. I had no idea getting the watch back together would be so hard, or I would have taken it to a watchmaker in the first place. I keep hoping that I am missing something simple and obvious, but I don't know what it could be. I am willing to give it one more go before I throw in the towel. Further recommendations will be much appreciated, if you can think of any. Last edited on Sun Jun 3rd, 2007 02:43 pm by Orange Monster |

Hi OM... perhaps if you took some pictures of what you are referring to in your description, one of the experts around here might get a better handle on how to help. ;)
