What is happening to me? I'm getting obsessed. This can't be good. Did I miss any warning signs? "Don't buy a quality watch! You'll be doomed forever!" :D

Today I meet another WIS (I might aswell admit to being one by now) and had a chat. Now I'm the kind of guy that normaly spends alot of time researching whatever I have set my mind to buying. I want to know I have made the right choice whenever I make a purchase.

We started talking about what started it all for each of us.

The watch that started my saving was the Fortis B-42 Cosmonaute GMT. It is stil at the top of my wishlist.

If it hadn't been for enzo and his amazing emv I would probably have bought it by now. When I saw the emv and the special demo-sale enzo had (plus the fact that he is the nicest person to deal with ever) the Fortis had to stand in the waitingline.

Now I'm not counting a few other russian watches in all this mostly cause they didn't cost that much and don't have the overall quality that I was looking for in a watch.

Anyway the enzo blew me away and I don't regret buying it at all, never will. The thing that I like most about it is the bezel, the smooth curved bezel with raised dots. Just lovely! I had'nt seen any really like it on other watches. Has anyone else?

And as I was talking about the watch as passionatly as one can get about their favorite watch, he pulls something out of his box and shows me this one:

and my jaw just drops! hearteyes.gif
I can't believe I have found another todiefor watch! Now I got to try it out and it is lovely! And HUGE! Hopefully I'll realize it is just to big for me to actually have any use of. And hopefully soon, before the fortis gets another bump.

I don't know that much about it yet, except that it costs quite alot for a watch that doesn't seem to look that expensive. And that if it wasn't for the fact that I realy can't afford a new watch before I save some money I'd have bought one already.

Does anyone of you guys know anything about it?
I do know that it is somekind of panerai homage-thing designwise. I recognize the dial naturally. I've never been that big on the whole case-design of pam-watches though I've always like the dial concept of layers.

Anyway, this is getting to be an expensive hobby :D I mean how many watches could anyone really need? Oh, was this maybe the wrong forum to ask that? ;)

It's not a disease but it's definitely an addiction! goofy

As far as the watch goes, it looks nice and has the PAM homage thing going.  It's made by the Retrospect Watch Co. and it's an LE at only 200 pieces being sold at $1098.00.  Seems to be reasonable at that price considering the Unitas handwound movement and being a whopper to boot sized at 47mm not including the crown. The sandwich dial was a nice touch as well.

Well the watchbug got me I guess. There is something about that bezel design I like.

Is the unitas handwound movement that costly really? I seem to see them on alot of watches that are way down on the pricescale compared to this one. But there could be some kind of difference I don't know about. I'm not that knowing about different movements.

I'll check out bigwatchforum and see if I find any info. My friend actually knew of one for sale used but in great shape. The temptation devil that he is. :X

I'm just going to have to atleast check it out. mistake.gif

I'm not sure that the Unitas movement is that costly as I have a few very affordable (read TRIAS) watches with that movement.  It is a very dependable movement that has been around forever, originating, I believe, as a pocket watch movement.  It is quite large compared to the more modern "automatic" movements.

That said, I must disagree with sixgears.  It is a disease AND an addiction, and under that premise, I demand that the Federal government come up with a program to help support it! :D

The right answer to the question "how many watches could anyone really need" is: One more watch than you have now :D  hand6.gif

KenC yeah I've seen some of the ones you mentioned. Was looking at a Kienzle that I liked the design off that had the same kind of movement.

zippofan: I guess the problem for me right now is that it isn't just ONE more watch than I have, but TWO! At the moment anyway, I saw this mido watch in the daily thread yesterday that spoke to me too. >< mistake.gif

Dookie: I guess there are different modifications you could do to movements that justify the differences.
This is the one they are using acording to their homepage. Doesn't look that different. But then again I'm only going on looks here and have no experience whatsoever of movements. But I've seen prettier ones ;)

As a point of info, the Unitas 6497 has the seconds subdial at the 9 o'clock position (9eater) and the Unitas 6498 has the subdial at the 6 o'clock position.
