Quick and dirty shot of my latest arrival. Used but it cleaned up nicely. There are a few MarcelloC owners around here and the occasional wrist shots got me curious. It is a sweet watch but it's got Taiwan lume on the dial :X cyclops is not perfectly aligned either. My Steinharts are more impressive but Steinhart doesn't have a silver dial or 1000m. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited on Sun Feb 25th, 2007 06:06 pm by OldeCrow |

Oscar I specifically remember having a conversation with you about the better quality of the MarcelloC! :D That was one of the reasons why I was interested in checking one out! I'm not unhappy with it, just a bit surprised at the lack of lume! It's hard to not like a sweet silver dial like that. I've only had it for a few hours so maybe I am just looking for things to complain about, the build quality is a little better all the way around and like you mentioned it also has a higher grade movement in it.

I also just received a Marcello C Nettuno GMT. The fit and finish is excellent on mine. The dial in particular is deep, deep, black. The crown works smoothly as does everything else on the watch. It reminds me of my old Rolex GMT Master II in terms of size and general quality. The exhibition back shows off a very nicely decorated movement. It is a step up from the standard Nettuno and it has a little more detail in the finishing. The cyclops could magnify more and the lumn is just average. It glows very bright at first and then fades to a soft glow for the next 4-5 hours. I can read the time, but I agree they could and should do better on this point. Watchboy (where is he these days) and I once talked about how the Swiss just don't seem to do a great job with lumn. The only watch I have that is Swiss with truly good lumn is my Corum Romulus. It glows way better than I ever thought it would. Its nice.

By the way, Marcello C uses loctite to seal their bracelet link screws and you must heat them to get them out easily.

I don't know if its a swiss problem, Omega's have fantastic lume, so do rolex's and a whole host of other small brands. Part of it is the distinctive markers, there is just not much room for lume but the quality of the lume is lacking as well. If it were real c1 or c3 it would look much better. whatever they used has more daylight pigment in it than lume so it looks nice and white durring the day but there's not much going on in the dark.... there is a joke there if anyone wants to finish it :P MarcelloC on the left Steinhart on the right. this is after letting the lume fade for 15 or 20 seconds, the different lumes on the Steinhart are visable too. I haven't actually seen it in the dark yet, it doesn't really have to be impressive durring the day it has to be readable at night. I'll know the answer to that if I ever get to bed tonight! ![]()

I certainly can't quible with anything you have said regarding the lumn. Omega does have damn good lumn as does I'm other brands I haven't seen. But, Watchboy and I have also had some disappointments too. The Marcello C I just got is borderline. Not great, but not horrible either. I have had one nice watch where the lumn was gone almost completey after 10 minutes. I don't own it anymore. :) All other aspects of the particular Marcello C I have are top notch. Maybe not as good as my old Rolex, but close enough for me. And, my old GMT master didn't have a peek-a-boo back (and it had virtually zero lumn, 1987 model). The bracelet on the Marcello C is better than the one on my 1987 GMT, the case is about the same (seems so), but the Rolex had a much smoother turning bezel. Crowns are almost identical cosmetically.

I don't really have a lot of room to complain given what I paid for it. It is quite an undertaking making a watch that can bear the 1000m label and the devil is in the details, Nice crown, AR on the glass, other than lume the dial is amazing and I can send the watch to someone (more skilled than me) and have the hour markers lumed if it really bothers me so all in all I am impressed with it. I have a problem seeing more watch just because I spent more or because the watch has a higher suggested retail, in fact I am more suspicious of more expensive watches I just need to shut up and wear it for a few days and enjoy it! :P Then I can take some time to look at it technically!

I did a side-by-side for a customer who inquired about lume. I took a Nettuno and my Submariner and exposed them to the same amount of light, then, lights out. . . as you both say, within a few minutes the Marcello had declined to a soft glow, while the Sub was going strong. Good Night. 8 hours later, did the same side by side. Now, keep in mind that at this point my eyes are very adapted to the dark, and sensitive to light. The Rolex had subsided to the soft glow that the Nettuno had a few minutes after lights out, and the Nettuno still had a decent glow about it. Discernable, but certainly not a flashlight. That's my take.

If there are issues speaking to QC (misaligned cyclops), contact the company...I am certain they will want to make this right! MarcelloC CS is second to none! As far as the lume goes...it really is a matter of surface area on the newer watches. I have an 03 Tridente GMT that is not great...but my newer Tridentes and the 04 Nettuno have all be pretty good :) Nice watch in any event! Regards, Ted

Thanks for the comments guys! As Marc mentioned and I discovered last night the lume is not spectacular in the day but it is present and readable all night, the real test will be outside at night where there is a bit more ambiant light than a dark room but I can live with the lume knowing it is functional at night! It's not a lighthouse after all its a watch :P This morning I am not quite sure that the cyclops is crooked, there is something that makes the cyclops bezel and dial look like they are not all on the same page but it may just be the thickness of the crystal and the angle I am holding the watch at? I will try to take a photo that shows what I am seeing with the naked eye, maybe I am just being a watch nut :P
