My wife and I are in Palm Springs, Fl. for the week on some R&R. Staying on the beach at Singer Isl., Marriot..Got in on Saturday. Woke up about 0500 on Monday, checked the news that the shuttle launch was still on, woke up my wife, and drove north as far as we can go until launch time. We got about 25 miles from Cape Canavaral, got out to the beach, with a thousand or more other people and saw the launch... pretty feaking cool...first one I had ever seen live..(probably my last) the initial launch had been cancelled and this was the re-scheduled date, just great timng for us...

Incredible Joe! Great timing for sure! I've been down to Kennedy Space Flight Center to see a few Delta II launches (best viewed from Cocoa Beach for sure), but never been able to see a Shuttle Launch (missed seeing one by about a week when we were down to see the Delta II launch). You are right about it probably being your last...there is only one more Shuttle launch scheduled (Shuttle Atlantis scheduled for some time in early July 2011)...the last and final launch with the Shuttle program being shut down forever. Glad to hear that you were able to see it in person!!!

Thanks Guys, and by the way I ment I'm in Palm Beach, for some reason I constanly mix the two places up..My wife says it's because I've been hit in the head too many times... Weird thing, when we got to the beach to watch the launch there was this mass of "love bugs" that's what the locals call them hatching out and mating that morning and now three days later, there still all over the place..

When I lived in fla I got to see the first launch after the Challenger blew up. We were about 8 miles south of the launch site on a bridge. When the sound wave hit us the bridge shook for the power of the shuttle. I tried a few times after to see another launch but they all ended up being delayed once we got there. At least I got to see it once. What an awesome experience I will never forget.
