Gerald Ford passed away Tuesday, december 26, 2006. I'm surprised none of us noted it... Seems even in death we are a bit ambivalent about him. Ford was never elected to office of president or vice president but stepped in as VP after Spiro Agner left office and assumed the presidency after Richard Nixon left office. And there in lies our ambivalence I do think. I was a bit young soI don't remember much except the pardon of Nixon, "WIN" buttons and Ford getting beat by Jimmy Carter. One less live president but Ford joins his predecessors... R.I.P. Gerald Ford. Last edited on Sat Dec 30th, 2006 08:34 am by Paxman |

I agree Tony...President Ford did a great job seeing as he never ran for the highest offices in the U.S governmenthand6.gif He was nominated by President Nixon after V.P Spiro T.Agnew resigned and was approved to the office of V.P by a majority vote in both Houses of Congress.I liked him as did many during his Presidency:)

Gerald Ford was a much better president than he is currently given credit for. His controversial move of pardoning Nixon, was done, not to save the man, but to save the Nation and allow us to move forward..............his actions saved the Office of the President. Everyone rails about Nixon's mis-deeds, but they were minor in comparison to those of many in the past and/or in the future....he simply got "caught" at it. That said, Gerald Ford was a great man and a tremendous public servant who dedicated his life to serving his country. His accomplishments during his short tenure as president were far greater than those of his successor! I believe history will be a kind judge of Prisident Ford!
