My wife wants me to fix this. It was her dads. Its a Gallet mech chrono. It works but cant set the time, crown is frozen. Can be wound, cant set the time. It says Gallet & co. Swiss, 17 jewels 40-68 and JXR on the movement. What do you think? is a decent watch? Will more than likely fix due to sentimental value.![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks Oscar. Since posting I have been looking around the net at info. Well I am going to fix it. I dont know what to do. the crystal is pretty scratched so maybe the dial face is good enough to leave alone? Maybe just fix the movement and put a new crystal in and fix up the case??? Should I get it fully restored? Who would you recommend?? Any suggestions??

I've seen before/after pictures of some of his restorations and the work was Excellent. I'm sure there are others out there that can do it, but I don't know who they are. Maybe some others know of someone else, but I don't. http://www.industrialwatchworks.com/

Scott that's a beauty.:D I don't think I would touch the dial. Looks like a really nice patina imho. You might be good with a good servicing and crystal replacement.

I agree with Pax on the dial and you need only get it running, serviced and cleaned...as for the crystal just buy a small can of Crystal Clear from The WatchPrince and you will be surprised at the results a good polishing will do by hand....I have restored acrylic crystals to like new with this product as well as mineral and saph to presentable finishes and works great on the case as well...just don't use a Dremel!!!!...it works like a clear filler on crystals...there is a lot of info on 3T....just use the search engine hand6.gif http://www.thewatchprince.com/specials?search=crystal+clear&sort1desc=F&sort1=Item_NAME

I would figure on about $300 to $350 for a c.o.a. on that movement and a new acrylic crystal should only run about $25. Leave the dial alone except for a light cleaning by your watch maker. If you can't find anyone, I can hook you up with my watch maker who does a lot of these vintage chronos

Ok, The consensus is to leave the dial alone. I have a ? though. The hands and #'s have lume on them and it only lasts about 10 seconds. Should I leave the lume alone or have it redone? Thanks for all the great advice.

I would leave it as close to original as possible, Scott. This is not a watch you are fixing up as a daily wearer, after all. JMOO. New hands that appear correct are available for not too much, though. The hands on my Bovet were about the same shape and the new ones look almost identical. Attachment: 004.JPG (Downloaded 35 times)
