Oscar, My favorite dress watch is the Zenith 1965 in either White or yellow gold!! What do you think of this watch? I never really see them. Shady Attachment: zenith.jpg (Downloaded 96 times)

Thanks for so many of your good ideas so far ! This is very interesting! What do you guys think of the Maurice Lacroix "Pontos" series? ML seems to advertise a lot, but I saw some of those watches this weekend, and while less traditional they look nice. Where does that brand "stack up" vs. the others on this thread (reliability, well/not well known, etc.)?

For under $3-K, personally I would go for a Breitling (Navitimer or Montbrillant), Tissot Heritage or RGM. If I had the money, I would go for them as a really nice watch to enjoy. But being on this forum and getting to know the guys here a little more, you realize that beauty is in the construction and feel of a watch, and you don't need to flash the brand. For watch enthusiasts, you appreciate the acknowledgement from someone who recognizes the watch on your wrist for its "underground" appeal, there are many watchmakers out there who make great watches with great movements for under $1K.

since Shady brought up up the Zenith I would reccomend a Zenith El Premiro open heart chrono which would run around $4500. or less depending and is just gorgeous imho in black or silver dials! and the Guilloche' work on the dial is amazing yahoo.gif...Shady I have not seen that Zenith which looks like an older model but is part of the new vintage series ,but then I have never seen a bad Zenith as they all rock imho and seem to not be as recognized as they should be since they are one of the oldest Swiss houses! ...Hey Tony remember the chocolate dial one we saw in Chicago...that was sweet! hand6.gif Attachment: Zenith OpenBlack.jpg (Downloaded 83 times)

StephenF111 wrote: Stowa ? My 1st thought, exactly. Any of the Stowa Antea, Flieger or Marine watches would fit the bill! They are classic, would go with formal or jeans with the change of a strap...a great boutique watch, well made with excellent fit and finish, under $1k.... http://www.german-watches.com/cgi-bin/lshop.cgi

well most of these German brands being reccomended will not be seen window shopping in NYC but the Maurice LaCroix,Zenith maybe Limes and a few others will be...NYC will have the higher line Gevril Avenue series($5000.+) and the Jean Marcel line which in the $1000.-$5000 range is an excellent buy in a true dress watch and have awesome hand guilloched or enameled dials...your best bet is to just do what you have set out to do and just window shop until something jumps out at you. hand6.gif

Hi, I,like a lot of other posters would opt for a German manufacturer. To me they just scream understated quality,i love my Sinn U1 and my three Stowas but if i could spend a bit more the following would be on my radar Schaumburg Technical GMT ![]() Dornbluth & son 99.1 ![]() Just two of the great German watches out there! Mind you i also love the IWC Portugese!! Sinn 556 & 656 Stowa Marine original the list goes on!! Paul
