Well after two years of successfully wearing my collection, I finally scratched a crystal. My Seiko SKA383P1 Kinetic hit a door knob on my way home from work last night. DANG IT! For those of you familiar with this size crystal, can I get some recommendations on where I can send it for a replacement? I'm not sure if the size or style of this watch makes it a problem for the usual Seiko jewellers. Thank you! Here's the stock Seiko photo for reference.

What was the doorknob made from? Reason I ask is it maybe just a transfer of material from the knob to the watch crystal, and may be able to be polished off. Just a thought.

If you want to avoid to have to ship your watch out, just go to any Seiko AD close to you, they will take care of it, there is nothing special about that crystal, just a regular Hardlex hand6.gif

I've dinged plenty of crystals on door knobs and counter corners and never actually scratched the crystal but rather just left a bit of residue which initially presented like a scratch

Thanks for the info gentlemen. I'll double check that my crystal is actually scratched, but the doorknob was stainless steel, so I'm skeptical.

I was able to remove a scratch on a mineral with a very fine micro sand paper and then a polish used for crystals. I know I bought them at Otto Frei

Many years ago I had a Vietnam-issue Timex and as a teen back then, suffered some scratches on it. My dad told me to remove the scratches with some toothpaste and an old T-shirt. I think it worked. I haven't tried it on any of my watches ever since though. Mineral glass responds to very mild abrasives and that's the reason they're usually used on milspecs so that it'll be easy in the field to work on the problem.
