OK guys, I need your help on a recommendation. I have a '79 Seiko 6309-7040 that I have had for a while. I have been having problems with the automatic movement. It starts and stops running randomly, not good characteristics for a watch. I'm looking to source someone that works on these and can either repair the movement or replace it completely if needed. The watch is in beautiful shape appearance wise, not original, it has replacement dial hands and bezel insert. So if it is more cost effective to replace the movement with something new, that's OK. Hopefully there is a recommendation with a turn around time less than the 6 months from IWW. Any suggestions??? :? Thanks, Dave ![]()

Hi Dave - I unfortunately don't have a good info to share, but somebody here MUST. Although I will say 6 months is a long time; 3 months is "more the norm". Have you tried Universal Watch Repair at Universalwatch.net? They are the warranty center for a few brands I deal with. Good luck! Marc

The movement might just need a good cleaning and oiling if that has never been done. Otherwise you could purchase a movement and have a local watch repair person install it. These guys will have a movement that will fit most likely: http://www.chronograph.com/store/index.asp

I thought I read somewhere (PMWF perhaps) that a new 7Sxx Seiko movement will fit in the 6309. I know, heresy! But it could serve until you get the 6309 movement repaired. Duarte at NEWW regulated my 6309 to +1 per day when he bead blasted the case but he doesn't repair movements, just regulates them. Also, you could snag a whole 6309 watch from the Watchworks on the 'Bay, I got mine from him and it was fully serviced and in decent condition, $120 shipped. You could then transplant the movement to yours. I had contacted IWW to send my 6105 and when I heard of the 6 month wait I sent it to Bob Thayer in Texas. I heard some good things about him and he is very responsive. Also there is Randall Benson (who never replied to my inquiry) and Ken Setzer. Too bad there aren't more vintage Seiko specialists, they could make a killing on us WIS! Hmmmmm, maybe I should start with the TZ courses, I am used to working on tiny stuff (microelectronics)... Cheers, Griff
