Hi All, I have a NOS Valjoux 7765 handcranker chrono that needs a little TLC. I have no idea how long it sat on a shelf before I got it so I am not sure the condition of the movement. It runs about 1 sec fast per hour, which to me is a bit much as my 7750's are good to a few seconds per day. From what I read the 7765 is a variant of the 7750. So far I have been quoted a low of $80 to a high of $400 for a COA. There are no decent watchmakers here, just battery changers and Rolex only types. As a result I am used to sending things out for service but I have been burned and am leary of some of the "nationally known" watchmakers. One of them hosed me big time and as a result I won't touch vintages any more, but I digress. The sad part is that I am in PA, former home of Hamilton and current home of the NAWCC. Any suggestions on who is good and who to avoid? Thanks in advance! Sincerely, Griff

From my personal experience Rolex certified watch makers are about as good as you are going it get. They are not generally top tear, but at top tear watch maker will not usually work on a watch that he or she was not responsible in creating. Plus one that has been at it for long enough, has worked on the 7765. They will charge for there time, but if it is a prized piece then get it serviced and regulated. Run away from anyone that gives you a firm quote with out putting it in a timer, because they do a lot more than just measure the speed of the balance wheel.

I'm surprised that in the home of the NAWCC that someone around there wouldn't have some good suggestions or even volunteer to do it for you. Surely the resources at the NAWCC would yeild something.

Griff, Contact Duarte at NEWW. He doesn't do it, but has an associate that completely serviced my 7750 Jacques Lemans, replacing a few worn parts and "power washing" ( my words, not theres:D) all disasembled parts, etc. It was running at break neack speed and now is at around 8-9 seconds a dayhand6.gif T

Thank you guys, I appreciate it! Unfortunately the one Rolex guy here didn't even want to look at my watch, then quoted me $400 to get rid of me. The second never replied to my enquiry. The third watchmaker in town tried to sell me a quartz chrono. I'll give Duarte a shout, he has one of mine now for a second hand realignment. hand6.gif Cheers, Griff

If it is running a second fast per hour and the power reserve is around 40hrs would you be interested in doing it your self? Do you know the last time of service? It will only take a few minutes. The only problem is you will have to do the timing the old fashion way one day at a time.

The Sturmie I got pretty close, +7/day. The Raketa was impossible, I bought it used and I couldn't tell whether the wrong part (balance stud?) had been moved, it was totally inconsistent. It took me about 3-4 days before I was happy with the Sturmanskie. I had pics from the Russian forum and PMWF of the adjustments for those 2 watches, I am not sure what to move on the 7765, I couldnt tell from the parts list whether or not the '65 has the Etachron regulator or not. I would hate to move the wrong part of the adjustment! Thanks! Griff Last edited on Wed Sep 26th, 2007 08:47 pm by zippofan |

Zippo...here are the 2 I have had great experiences with: 1) These are the people that did the warranty work on my Hamilton Aviation Val7753. They did great work and were easy to talk to. I am sure if you called them you would get pricing info. Swiss Watch Service Group (727) 785-4999 2440 State Road 580 Suite 12 Clearwater, Florida 33761 2) This company I have used since 1992 to purchase high-end, pre-owned watches and for servicing. The service my Rolex and Breitling watches and just recently, my wife's Cartier de Santos Automatic (@ $165). I have never paid more than $200 for a servicing and they do keep 9 Swiss trained watchmakers on payroll. I have dealt with a gentleman by the name of David Harry for the last 10 years or so. I highly recommend them. East Coast Jewelry (800) 329-8463 (954) 429-9880 3379 W. Hillsboro Blvd. Deerfield Beach, FL 33442
