Shady, you only live once, so you're doing the right thing in my opinion.  If you can afford it, you need to get the things that make you happy.  No use living life if you're miserable -- or not happy.

I think one of the main rules I saw from another forum about watch collecting is to get THE watch you want.  You actually save money in the long run.  Instead of cluttering your house with watches you don't especially like but because it was a "good" deal, you end up putting it in a winder instead of enjoying it.   By getting your grail watch, you avoid many temptations from other watch offerings.  $500 here and there and pretty soon you could've bought the watch that you REALLY want.

As mentioned by past reviewers, the Spring Drive smooth second hand movement DOES make me smile every time I see it.  You can't find it in a Rolex.  You can't even find it in a Patek.  Read up on the advantages of the Spring Drive.  You'll soon see why it is called an "everlasting watch" by the inventor.  The 600M Diver is by far the best looking watch out there (if you like diver watches).  Other Spring Drives don't come close in design and overall presentation.  To me it's a watch you can wear with a suit or a T-shirt.  It's so much of my "single" watch that I can't imagine myself going back to the Zeno.

You noticed my car.  You're the first person to mention anything about it.  It's not my picture but it IS my car, all the way down to year (2006), model (Evolution), and the color (Tarmac black).  And it's not *any* Evolution.  Mine is an Evolution MR Special Edition.  Red stitching, aluminum roof, Bilstein shocks, six speed, and front flares (as you see in the photo).  All stock.

I see young people admiring my Evo and wanting one but I keep telling them they need to work hard and make money first.  Then enjoy the fruits of your labor.  This Evo is something very few young people can afford and probably for good reason.  I really enjoy it.  The power is simply incredible.  Do you like your Speed 3?

(As you can tell, I like many things Japanese.  They make incredible products.)

Mid life crisis, bought a red Speed3, enzo, monstrum and now the seiko...

My Sub and 18k Navitimer...are being neglected.

dtmbizzle, seems like we have a lot in common!  Thank you for your comment.  Even if you don't make more than you do now, I'm sure there are things you can cut out of your budget (stop eating out, bring your own lunch to work, stop going to the movies and watch TV instead, etc) that you can pocket to get this watch.  You'll be amazed how fast they all add up if you're disciplined.  Plus, the yen-dollar currency exchange might go in your favor later so that gets you closer still.  I wish you the best!

dtmbizzle wrote: Wow.  I definitely have 'Watch Envy'!!!  The 600m Spring Drive Diver is definitely on my Grail list.  Those are great pictures, thanks a ton for posting them.  I like your comments about Rolex vs. Spring Drive, and I agree with you about 1 billion %.  I'd much rather have the Spring Drive.  (Well, actually, i'd rather have both a Rollie, AND a SD!!!!, but if i had to choose... :)

Hope you wear it in good health and enjoy it!!!

...Maybe in a few years when my disposable income is higher i'll be getting one of those.

If your '88 has an M5 badge and still running, I doubt if it can fool anyone that it's a sleeper! subtlelaugh.gif  Anyone who has half a brain can guess you've put in some serious wrench time!!

The one "problem" I have all the time in my Evo is people revving their engine near me and driving fast and reckless.  My driving certainly didn't incite it; it's the car and the carbon fiber wing (stock of course).  When I drive my Toyota, I never have to deal with that.  It used to bother me that people keep asking me about my car, but once my wife pointed out I was pretty mean to someone one day, I stopped being so cranky.  Now, I don't mind spending the time to explain the cool things about the car to anyone who ask.  Live and learn.

Want to know EVERYTHING about the Seiko 600M Spring Drive?   Here's an excellent article from Paul Hubbard:

http://www.phfactor.net/wp/2005/10/28/more-on-watch-madness/

I especially like the link to the ten lessons of a watch collector, and all the links he posted about the watch.  I used it for research before deciding to buy it.
