Is it normal for a watch to occasionally have an isolated abberation in terms of its accuracy? The watch in question is a 2 month-old inexpensive Zeno manual wind that normally runs about +15 seconds per day (not particularly good to begin with, I know) but yesterday it ran 4 minutes fast. Is there anything that could account for this?

That's a big difference. Perhaps the watch's positioning? Did you do smething different with it? Even the most accurate auto/mechanicals will have a positional variation as it relates to accuracy. The accuracy "on the wrist" will amost always be different than when left on a watch winder or lying on it's back, stationary. Crown down/up or lying on it's face or back will make a difference. So, if you've been wearing it daily and then yesterday left it wound on the nigtstand for a day, that might explain it. --Steve

Here's a problem I run into (some blame it on age)...since I change watches frequently (and don't believe in wearing my watches out on a winder), I need to set the time when I put them on. Frequently, I set them incorrectly, look at them in amazement, check it against my cell phone...and then reset it. So...bottom line, you may have simply lined the minute hand up wrong that morning and not noticed it until later...could be my theory is all wet, too! :D

Maybe Ken's explanation makes more sense? To follow up on that. Make sure you set the watch against the same source and at the same time of the day. If you are then seeing that type of inconsistency... Agree with Foster. Time for a Dr's appointment.

Until my incoming later today (well, it should be today) this is the only watch that I own, and it has been running constantly since I got it two months ago. I re-set it once a week or so (since it had been gaining about 2 minutes per week, I set it one minute behind and then re-set when it's one minute ahead). As far as I'm aware, I did nothing out of the ordinary yesterday -- wore it all day and then put it down, face up when I went to bed.
