What are the tale-tell signs of a fake version of a watch? I was given this bulova in Feb. and was told by a local jeweler that it was as fake as the man that gave it to me lol. Are there any visual signs to know the difference or is necessary to remove the caseback and look at the movement? Would appreciate some opinions on this one.![]() ![]()

Did the jeweler tell you why he thought it was a fake.....I find it hard to believe that anyone would make a fake of a watch that sells for about $225....

I think the jeweler just wasn't familiar with that model. Pretty hard to fake a minute repeater. Bulova used the Citizen movement that Citizen put in their Campagnola line. I would say that is a true Bulova minute repeater for sure.

I would say it is real....37mm was the size as these came out about 4-5 years ago and sold for $375. ....most of us went for the larger Jacques Lemans minute repeater that came out shortly after at 42mm ....Bulovas are replicated however and many would be surprised what is actually being made as replicas these days :D

The Jeweler tried to tell me that the long date hand was a second hand that was not working properly, and said the setting buttons were not functioning properly (but I noticed he tried to reset without changing the crown positions)... not having a lot of knowledge, and the source it came from being questionable in other aspects, I was quite unsure about it. So maybe I just had the misfortune of going to a jeweler that really didn't know about this particular watch? I appreciate the imput on this, I have been giving consideration to selling or trading it for a more feminine watch (I only have a 5 1/2" wrist) but did not want to do that if it was not the real deal. The model number that is with the papers says it is a 96C21. Last edited on Thu May 14th, 2009 06:52 pm by mylady2u |

resale of these are pretty low...as Nick said they sell NIB now for around $200. ...nice watch but at 37mm a bit small by todays standards for most men ;) http://www.thewatchery.com/watch.asp?Luxury_Watch_Model=10673&source=GoogleBase&mpn=96C21

The jeweller was a putz. face4.gif No one would fake a modern Bulova Millennia though I have to say I think the series gives you a lot of watch for the money. I wore out my Millennia Tides watch.![]()

IMHO, it would be hard to tell based on the picture and without inspecting the watch if this watch were a fake. Believe me, I have even seen $40 Seikos being faked and even G-Shocks being faked in Shanghai and Shenzen. What I usally initially do is surf the sites and see pictures to determine if a model like this was actually produced. If there is no history at all, I'd be very skeptical already. For your info, I have seen Panerais faked with Lange & Sohne designs and the Portuguese made to look like something else. If you are travelling, take the watch with you and take it to a much bigger dealer for an opinion. That might be the best way to seek closure on this issue. Hope this helps.
