I recently took delivery of a gently pre-owned Stowa Prodiver with the black dial and orange minute/sec hands.  The build quality was immediately evident as I held it in my hand.  The dial and bezel markings are supremely crisp, the machining on the Fricker case and bezel is amazing.  The design is elegant and efficient.  The lume is incredible.  The supplied strap and bracelet are both great.  It does everything a dive watch should, and does it all with masterful precision.

But when I look over to see it nestled securely on my wrist, I feel nothing.  There's something cold and impersonal about it.  There's no connection.

I feel funny even writing that.  I mean, a watch is machine right?

Anyway, I've been wearing the PD all week, hoping that one of these times when I steal a glance, that it'll wink back at me.  But it just sits there, second hand gliding around in consecutively perfect circles, oblivious to anything but its singular job -- measuring time.

So have I lost my mind?  I KNOW the PD is a great watch, so why don't I love it? mistake.gif

Dont stress over it..send it to me:D  Seriously, not every watch is for every person, might be the squarish case...Dial etc that your not meshing with. Take your avatar...I've owned a few Sea Anglers..great watch, popular etc...sold both of mine, they left me cold:?

It's all personal taste.  The black dial STOWA's leave me cold also...but the color dials warm me up.  I've owned the Lime and pink dial (sold the pink) and love it...the melon and wine dial are also nice.  I simply think that the STOWA PD is such a hunk of sterile machinery, it needs something to bring it to life!

I know what you mean.  If something "talks" to me, I usually get it.  Give it some time and see what happens.  Congrats!

Pink and green. Love them Ken :)

If not talking now maybe try putting it away for a week and try again. If that dose not work maybe change it's shoes? ;)

If that dose not work send it to me and I'll hold on to it for ya for a couple decades. LOL :D

thankyou.gif to everyone who provided me some perspective.

I think Ken really nailed how I'm feeling about the PD -- it's just a bit sterile.

I would also like to thank all you guys who kindly offered to help me out by babysitting this one for me. ;)

Thanks for the suggestion to change out the shoes, Skipdawg.  I'll give that a try.

PS:  I should also make the disclaimer that I recognize what an outstanding watch it is.  And I understand that there's a certain beauty in its design.  So please don't misconstrue that I think there's anything wrong with the Stowa PD.  It just may not be for me.

If your watch ever talks to you GET RID OF IT ASAP! Don't you remember what happened to Telle Savalas when Talking Tina started to "yap it up" on Twilight Zone?

Yes you are a weirdo... if you weren't you wouldn't be here!!:D

I agree with Ken in that the Stowa's really benefit from a dash of color. I have found the Prodiver to be a bit too Teutonic for me... along with Schaumburg. Just too toolish and impersonal, but that's me... may be you too? Give it some time but if it doesn't grab you... sell!!

Ha ha!  The Kobold is probably a bit jealous of the Korsbek OE. ;)

I took Skipdawg's advice and tried some other straps.  Mine arrived on the Stowa rubber, but I tried a few other dive straps and leathers, and even a watchadoo bracelet.  Finally decided that the Stowa bracelet looks best to me.

I think that all the extra steel helps set off the dial and hands a bit better.  I dunno, looks ok to me now.  Kind of seems like it could sit in place of a Rolex, but has a bit more of an edge to it...which I dig.

If I end up holding onto it for a while, I'll get some pix up.  It's the least I can do to say thankyou.gif  to everyone who bothered to read this thread.
