I fianally broke down and bought a new driver...been using the Taylor Made R7 and switched to a Nike Sasquatch Sumo 1 "Sweet 16" ...16 degrees of loft and have to say it has changed my long game!....drives are straighter than ever,longer by at least 20yds and I would have never believed it!

Last time I played golf, I used clubs with steel shafts, from the 1940s (my father's set). Rode around the course with a keg of beer strapped to the back of the cart. Needless to say by the time we reached 18, the keg was empty and I turned the sand trap into a water hazzard... :shock:

just bought a new cobra recently .... got at least 20 xtra yards out of it ..... now I can get it out there 270-280 !!!!!!! ....more control also ..... cost alot though

Hmmmmmm...never saw a Driver with more than 12 dgrees of loft (except the old TM Fairway Driver at 13). Still using a Cleveland Launcher 360 9 1/2 degree driver but re shafted with the Graffaloy Graphite BLUE 55 gram, tip soft...reshafted my Cleveland TI 3W with he same shaft. Changed from Callaway Big Bertha 97 Irons with the graphite F shaft to Taylor Made RAC CGB Graphite tip soft M shaft. Knocked about 10 strokes off my game...so I told the Club pro to shove his lessons...cause it ain't the swing...it's the equipment. Still using my original custom Scotty Cameron Newport putter (although I did send it back to Titlist last summer for refinishing!

Wasn't knocking it...just have never seen it...and yes, more loft equals more carry (and usually, much less side spin if hit off center). I hit a fairly high ball to begin with with, and it has nothing to do with "old man"...hell, I use senior flex shafts. It just was strange to me as my 3-wood is 15 degree. Another difference is that you are probably playing greener (wetter) courses which means a lower trajectory will not get the same "release" as on the harder fairways out hear. To me, it doesn't matter what clubs you play, as long as you get the results you want! That said, I would kill to be able to hit a straight 280 drive on a consistant basis.

When it comes to golf, my enthusiasm far outstrips my skill. The frustrating part is that I have to pick a club based on hitting it properly. I can knock the crap out the ball if I hit it cleanly, and it's typically very straight also. The problem is actually hitting it cleanly. Unfortunately, my life isn't at the point where I can golf very often. We were at a Chamber of Commerce golf fundraiser on Wednesday, and I 2 perfect shots. The first one was a long (530 yds) par 5 that they typically use as their long-drive contest hole. I hit it absolutely perfectly, and popped it about 285. I was floored. The frustrating thing is they had forgotten to put the long-drive marker/contest out for our event, otherwise I might've had a chance. 4 holes later was a par 3, about 150 yds, but the tee box was about 60 ft higher than the green, with a nice hill on the right and a right side pin placement. I tried to hit the slope and let it run down to the hole (9 iron) and damned if it didn't do exactly that. I was about 15 ft above the hole, and from where I was standing, I almost couldn't see the ball, it was the perfect line. It was another contest hole, and if I'd sunk it I would've won $10,000, so I'm glad I was 15 ft away instead of 15 inches. That would've been too much to take. My driver is about 8 years old, and small by today's standards. I should probably pick up a new one, maybe I'll try next spring.
