been looking at various Breitling sales post on forums. Really have a hankering to own one, dont know if it will happen but...I digress, there seems to be a recurring theme on many of the posts, everyone was just back from the Breitling service center What's up with that? Is it that people wear the smack out of them, or is there a central issue?? If I'm not mistaken, they basically use ETA movements, albiet modified and COSC certified, but really, over 3/4 of the ads I have seen have come back from service. Any thoughts???

I see that allot and don't get it. I have 2 I had for 3 years and the other 2 for 2 years and have lost no time on them at all and wear them rather often actually with the collection I have.

I can't comment on the service issue though I have felt for some time I would like a Breitling but then made other choices. For some indeterminable reason every time I've sampled one of these watches in the flesh I've never gotten the "itch". For the life of me I don't know why. I almost feel like there is something wrong with my WIS lust... perhaps middle age? Keen observation though, Tony and it does beg the question...

I've seen it some with pre-owned omega watches too. But I love my Breitlings. I've never regretted buying any of them. Great watches.

I have the Breitling Avenger Seawolf auto and a Colt quartz and both have been flawless...I am still in the market for the Heritage and find Breitling to be a great value. ...like any higher end watch I would think twice about buying one pre-owned unless it was from a WIS Buddy who had no problems with it or it is still under warranty. ....I would have also said if it was a deal you couldn't pass up but I took one of those deals on an Omega and I wish I would have passed it up...  ....I have also noticed that some WIS think by adding it is "just back from service" as a selling point for some reason...

I've owned a Breitling Pluton quartz and it's the best watch i've ever owned. i didn't have the same luck with my Breitling B2. The movement was the Breitling internal movement 17 and that puppy was on steroids. It gained a minute every two to three days. I have a buddy of mine who has the same watch and it does the same thing. I bought my B2 back in 2002 so maybe something with that particular model. Issue with sending them to Connecticut to get repaired is that the cost is prohibitive. For example, it would cost me minimun of 450 to do the full service on my pluton which cost me 600 back when i bought it in 92

i dont service watches unless they need it.....If you keep then running at least once per month etc they are fine....

I had a buddy in the bank once who owned a Breitling and he was quite happy with it although he would make a complaint every so often about how fast it gained time. I also had another buddy in the same circle of friends who had no complaints at all on a different Breitling model. Since I wasn't bitten by the watchbug then, I paid no attention to their comments at that time. Personally, I am not drawn at all to the brand. Like Mark, I don't know why. Hard to describe it but no matter what I do I can't even bring myself to look at the watches in a show window. I guess it's just something about its dials........too much detail???

I don't think there is an issue with Breitling. I only have one: a chronomat circa 2004. No issues whatsoever - still runs within COSC specs. I agree that some Breitling dials are simply too busy, but they are good watches. I personally love the Heritage series, and would love to get a Superocean heritage on mesh - non-chrono version.

Well Tony...I only have one, the Breitling SuperOcean Steelfish X-Plus. I absolutely love it...and it was a grail for me personally!!! The "X-Plus" name was only used for one production year in 2006. I purchased the piece preowned at a way below market price IMO, and I can only say positive things about the piece. Excellent built quality from case to bezel to bracelet...the Breitling 17 calibre which uses the "ordinary" ETA 2824-2 movement as the base is one of the most accurate, smoothest winding movements I have experienced. The crown is also the smoothest engaging of all the pieces I own. The watch has been flawless for me so far. Okay, let me add my own 2-cents. For the most part, I don't care for Breitling as the are VERY busy looking...although I do like the Colt GMT Auto. That said, I do own one Brietling that was their signature model back in the early 1990's (I believe mine is circa 1993). The watch has been great, the straps were of inferior quality and outrageously expensive. I finally went to and after-market bracelet which I didn't warm up to. I recently replaced it with a Steve-0 brown leather "coach" style strap which works well. As for the watch itself, I have had no problems. It keeps better time and is more reliable than my (same circa) Rolex GMT II). I have the Windrider Chronomat Model (B13050) pictured below (stock picture)...I also do not believe in "servicing" watches as the cost is virtually the same as repairing them, when and if they fail. This watch:  ...with this strap.
