You shouldn't have to worry about buying a watch, fgs!  hmmmpft!

You are who and what you are and she should luv you as that.

End of my diatribe.  happy1.gif

Well Mario, when a man's going to buy a watch, ya just gotta do it.  You know it's one of those "A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do." kind of things.

I once wanted to buy a new pistol that I needed like another hole in the head.  I knew she who cooks would blow her top if I asked her opinion, so I just went and bought the gun.  Well, when she found out, she blew her top, as expected, and asked why I didn't talk to her first.  I told her I knew she'd say no and since I was going to buy the gun anyway I thought it would be better if was only be mad because I bought another gun...not that I defied her AND bought another gun.

I think the saying "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission" might come into play here too.

KenC wroteExactly what I was going to say...she is a girlfriend, not a wife.  If you can afford the watch without sacrificing anything else, then that is your right and your privilege.  With the controlling image you portray of this girlfriend...perhaps it is time you went looking for a new one to go along with your new Grovano!
Couldn't agree more.  I'm married and haven't bought a watch in a while because I had other financial priorities.  Things have turned slightly and it's about time for another purchase.  Yes, my wife will roll her eyes and give me that "I can't believe I married such a geek" look.  Much of this will be because she doesn't get the whole watch thing.  She can't understand my purchasing a new watch when I've got half a dozen that cover the major styles and are all perfectly fine.  She might even pick a fight but guess what....  I'm still going to buy one and will offer no apology for it.  I love and respect my wife tremendously.  I don't get on her about the 30 or so purses laying around the house or the sweater that was too good of a deal to pass.  I do not expect that level of scrutiny over something like this.  If I do get, I'll stand my ground.  We'll talk it out.  And she will get over it.
It helps when I remind her that I'm the same guy she fell in love with 15 years ago....  only with more watches and without the big mullett.

I have to slip my 2 cents in here. I'm married, so there's a little difference with the original poster situation and mine. I don't own a  ton of watches like some folks here, and I've only recently started buying some, but I have a long time interest in swiss watches since my father came home beaming from a business trip in Zurich in 1968 sporting a plain jane ultra thin Bucherer. Now, I do have to explain or sell my wife a little on this watch buying past time. The most effective way and how I sold her on the Omega I recently purchased was to simply say..." honey, 10 years from now, if you wore it every day and then ran the Seamaster over with a truck.... you'ld still get $1000.00 dollars for it, it's money in the bank"....it worked and dare I say with very little resistance.;)

I have several hobbies. Ahh hell lets just call them for what they are, obsessions :)
I have an outstanding knife collection that gets added too several times a year.
Do I have enough things to cut with you bet, but I still buy, as I get so much pleasure out of having and adding too, my collection. I have an outstanding LED flashlight collection. One in every car, in everyroom, several in my camp gear, and batteries/chargers to go with them. I add to this collection several times each year. I have a nice fountain pen collection, 6 really excellent, classic pieces, and as time goes on I also add to this as well. And finally watches. I have a nice collection and right now I have 10 pieces. More than enough for the purpose of telling time, and I add to this collection as well. Life is meant to be enjoyed, I enjoy these things. If I didn't I would place my interest in something else. More to the point everybody who knows me always ask what pen am I using today, what time is it (just to see what watch I'm wearing, and they will say hay look at how small that flashlight is and how bright it is. Or ask me to cut sometime just to check out my latest knife. These are things that matter to me. I am known to my loved ones for having usually on my person: 1 or 2 nice fountain pens, 1 Led flashligh, 1 knife, and an ever changing watch, and for me it's the point of having quality stuff at my finger tips, or on my wrist. My GF found these things out early on, and she became my GF for many reasons, but included in these was a knowledge that these hobbies were important to me. She doesnt share most of these but has enjoyed the benefits of her boyfriend having these hobbies.
She has 3 nice flashlights that I got for her(car, purse, bedroom). She has a nice fountain Pen in her purse, A nice keychain pen knife, and yes I got her a beautiful girly watch that she wears all the time. Be up front, be who you are,
